Gwyn Jones (24 May 1907 โ€“ 6 December 1999) was a Welsh novelist and story writer, and a scholar and translator of Nordic literature and history. Personal life and academic career Gwyn Jones was born on 24 May 1907 in New Tredegar, Monmouthshire, the second child of George Henry Jones (1874โ€“1970), a miner, and his second wife, Lily Florence, nรฉe Nethercott (1877โ€“1960), a midwife. He was brought up in nearby Blackwood. He attended Tredegar county school and studied at University College, Cardiff as an undergraduate and a postgraduate. After six years he was a schoolteacher in Wigan and Manchester, in 1935 he returned to University College, Cardiff as a lecturer. In 1940 was appointed Professor of English of the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, where he taught until his appointment as Professor of English at University College, Cardiff in 1964, a position he held until his retirement in 1975. Gwyn Jones (footballer, Born 1935)
Gwynfor Jones (20 March 1935 โ€“ 13 November 2020) was a Welsh footballer, who played in the Football League for Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bristol Rovers. Career Jones began his playing career at Caernarfon Town, before joining English First Division high-flyers Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1955. He made his Wolves debut on 17 December 1955 in a 3โ€“2 win over Black Country rivals West Bromwich Albion. He never found many opportunities for first team football at Molineux though, and managed just 21 appearances over seven years. He did however appear during Wolves' league championship-winning seasons of 1958 and 1959, and played in their 1959 Charity Shield victory. He joined Bristol Rovers in 1962, where he went on to play over 150 league games over his four years there. Gwyn Jones (physicist)
Gwyn Owain Jones (29 March 1917 – 3 July 2006) was a Welsh physicist and academic, who moved from being a professor at the University of London to become director of the National Museum of Wales. Life Jones was born in Cardiff on 29 March 1917. He was educated at Port Talbot County School and Monmouth School before winning a Edmund Meyrick, Meyricke scholarship to Jesus College, Oxford to study physics. He graduated in 1939 and became a Research Fellow at the University of Sheffield, obtaining his Doctor of Philosophy, PhD on the physics of glass. (He published ''Glass'' in 1956.) Gwyn Jones (rugby Union)
Rhodri Gwyn Jones (born 5 October 1972) is a former Wales international rugby union player. Jones played as a flanker and won 13 caps for Wales over a period of two years before a spinal injury ended his rugby career in December 1997. Early life Jones was born in Swansea in 1972. He was educated at Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Pontybrenin, then Ysgol Gyfun Gwลทr. He went on to Llandovery College and then Cardiff Medical School, where he played for Cardiff Medicals RFC. Rugby career Jones captained Wales at under 15 and under 17 level. He also won five caps for the under 18 level. He soon progressed to the Senior stage winning 13 caps for Wales, five of which as captain. He was the 109th Captain of Wales. Gwyn Hughes Jones (born 25 October 1969) is a Welsh operatic tenor, best known for his leading roles in romantic Italian operatic repertoire. Early life and education Gwyn Hughes Jones was born in Llanbedrgoch, Anglesey, Wales, and studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio.
