Guyver or Guiver is a surname that has mostly dropped out of use. According to Government Stats on voters, it is the 4066th most common name. "Guyver" originally spelled "Gyver" is an old English family name which has been traced back to the death of Richard Gyver in 1544. The family home still exists in Ugley, Essex. An alternative spelling came about when the old English vowel 'Y' was changed to an 'I', so that Tyme became Time, Wyllyam became William and so on. The Guiver branch of the family is now larger than the original Gyver/Guyver side which still uses the old spelling. Ugley, Essex
Ugley is a small village and civil parish in the non-metropolitan district of Uttlesford in Essex, England. It is about north from Stansted Mountfitchet, and situated between Saffron Walden and Bishop's Stortford. Within the parish is the village of Ugley Green, to the south. Ugley was first recorded in 1041 as "Uggele". It appears in the ''Domesday Book'' as "Ugghelea". The name probably means "woodland clearing of a man named Ugga." Within Ugley there are several buildings of the 16th and 17th centuries. The Grade II* listed church, St Peter's, has a 13th-century nave and a Tudor brick tower. Orford House is a Grade II* listed building built by Edward Russell, 1st Earl of Orford, c.1700. The village's name has been noted on lists of unusual place names. Cycling There is a cycling time trial course which starts close to Ugley. Robin Hyde
Robin Hyde, the pseudonym used by Iris Guiver Wilkinson (19 January 1906 – 23 August 1939), was a South African-born New Zealand poet, journalist and novelist. Early life Wilkinson was born in Cape Town to an English father and an Australian mother, and was taken to Wellington before her first birthday. She had her secondary education at Wellington Girls' College, where she wrote poetry and short stories for the school magazine. After school she briefly attended Victoria University of Wellington. When she was 18, Hyde suffered a knee injury which required a hospital operation. Lameness and pain haunted her for the rest of her life. In 1925 she became a journalist for Wellington's ''Dominion'' newspaper, mostly writing for the women's pages. She continued to support herself through journalism throughout her life. The Mark Of Cain (band)
The Mark of Cain (also seen as the initialism, TMOC) are an alternative metal band from Adelaide, South Australia. Their style has been likened to that of Helmet and Rollins Band, yet this band pre-dates both groups and was influenced by the early work of Joy Division, Big Black and United States hardcore groups. The Mark of Cain were formed in mid-1984 by brothers, John (guitar) and Kim Scott (bass guitar), with Rod Archer on vocals and Gavin Atkinson playing drums. Before long, Archer had left the group and John Scott took on the lead vocal role and the group has remained a trio ever since. The Scotts have been the core of the band which has featured 15 different drummers. Since January 2001, former Helmet member John Stanier has been their drummer; he is also concurrently with Tomahawk and Battles. Humboldt Crabs
The Humboldt Crabs are a collegiate summer baseball team located in Arcata, California. Playing in every season since they were founded in 1945 by Lou Bonomini, later joined by Ned Barsuglia, the Crabs are the oldest continually-operated summer collegiate baseball team in American baseball. Through the 2019 season the Crabs have a total record of 2557 wins and 803 losses. The Crabs did not play the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Crabs games are broadcast on KEJB (AM), KEJB 1480 AM, the Humboldt Crabs YouTube Channel, and stats are live on GameChanger App. Most games also include thCrab Grass Band formed in 1983, that play songs in between innings.
