Gus Dobrigh
Laurence Augustine "Gus" Dobrigh (11 February 1893 – 21 September 1982) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A half forward flanker in Collingwood's 1917 premiership team, Dobrigh was also a three time losing Grand Finalist. He was suspended by his club in 1919 over a payment dispute, but there were incorrect rumours at the time that it was because he had been suspected of playing dead in a game. After finishing with Collingwood at the end of 1921, Dobrigh moved to Port Melbourne in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), where he captained the club to a premiership in 1922; he was again caught up in a bribery scandal, being offered and turning down a significant sum of money by former player Vern Banbury to play dead in the Grand Final. Shire Of Huntly
The Shire of Huntly was a local government area immediately to the northeast of the regional city of Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1866 until 1994. The town of Huntly is around ten kilometres north of the centre of Bendigo. History The need for a council at Huntly arose from gold and quartz mining in the area, including alluvial deposits and some deep leads. Huntly was first incorporated as a road district on 10 March 1861, and became a shire on 13 July 1866. Accessed at State Library of Victoria, La Trobe Reading Room. From 1867 until 1977, councillors met at the Council Chambers at 620-634 Midland Highway, Huntly, but subsequently they moved into a new location. 1926 VFA Season
The 1926 Victorian Football Association season was the 48th season of the Australian rules football competition. The premiership was won by the Coburg Football Club, after it defeated Brighton by 16 points in the final on 18 September. It was the club's first VFA premiership, achieved in only its second season of senior competition. For the second time in six seasons, the Association was disrupted by the mid-season withdrawal of one of its clubs: Brunswick withdrawing after sixteen rounds in protest at suspensions given to two of its players. Association membership After having been reduced from ten clubs to eight in 1925, the Association sought to admit two clubs into its senior ranks to return to ten.
