Gus Cremin
Gus Cremin (26 January 1921 – 13 November 2014) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for Kerry GAA. Personal life Cremin was born in Lisselton in north Kerry where he lived with wife Celia and their extended family. He died on 13 November 2014. Career highlights With his team mate and fellow midfielder, the great Eddie Dowling, Gus helped the Shannon Rangers win the 1945 Kerry County Championship, thus putting him in line for the Kerry captaincy the following year. He was chosen for the Kerry Juniors in 1946 and then went straight onto the senior side for the All-Ireland semi-final against Antrim. In the final against Roscommon he captained Kerry and became the youngest ever to lead the side in an All-Ireland final. It was a dramatic match and late goals from Paddy Burke and "Gega" O'Connor helped snatch a draw for the Kingdom. Gus was shouldered high from the field by supporters after an amazing game. Kerry GAA
The Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kerry GAA, is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland. It is responsible for Gaelic games in County Kerry, and for the Kerry county teams. The Kerry branch of the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in the year 1888. Football is the dominant sport in the county, with both the men's and women's teams among the strongest in the country at senior level. The county football team was the fourth from the province of Munster to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), as well as to appear in the final, following Limerick, Tipperary and Cork. Lisselton
Lisselton () is a village in County Kerry, Ireland. It is located 8 km northwest of Listowel on the R553 road to Ballybunion. The village is part of the parish of Ballydonoghue, which is located in the north of the county. The village contains three pubs, several shops and there are two primary schools in the parish. Sport Sporting organisations in the parish include Ballydonoghue GAA Club and Lisselton Rovers FC. Lisselton Rovers was previously based in Lisselton and played in the Kerry District League. The club relocated to Ballybunion and renamed themselves LB Rovers in 2012. Ballydonoghue GAA club have their own grounds at Coolard. The club has been represented on the county team on a number of occasions, providing three of the 1947 team that played in the only All Ireland final ever hosted outside of the country, the Kerry-Cavan duel played in the Polo Grounds in New York. Croke Park
Croke Park ( ga, Páirc an Chrócaigh, ) is a Gaelic games stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Named after Archbishop Thomas Croke, it is referred to as Croker by GAA fans and locals. It serves as both the principal national stadium of Ireland and headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Since 1891 the site has been used by the GAA to host Gaelic sports, including the annual All-Ireland in Gaelic football and hurling. A major expansion and redevelopment of the stadium ran from 1991 to 2005, raising capacity to its current 82,300 spectators. Polo Grounds
The Polo Grounds was the name of three stadiums in Upper Manhattan, New York City, used mainly for professional baseball and American football from 1880 through 1963. The original Polo Grounds, opened in 1876 and demolished in 1889, was built for the sport of polo. Bound on the south and north by 110th and 112th streets and on the east and west by Fifth and Sixth (Lenox) avenues, just north of Central Park, it was converted to a baseball stadium when leased by the New York Metropolitans in 1880. The third Polo Grounds, built in 1890, was renovated after a fire in 1911 and became Polo Grounds IV, the one generally indicated when the ''Polo Grounds'' is referenced. ''The Kerryman'' is a weekly local newspaper published in County Kerry in Ireland by Independent News & Media who are a subsidiary of Mediahuis. The newspaper was founded in 1904 by Maurice Griffin and cousins Thomas and Daniel Nolan. Independent News & Media, then known as Independent Newspapers Limited acquired ''The Kerryman'' in 1972. It has three different editions – North Kerry, South Kerry and Tralee. All three editions are tabloid format newspaper. The move of the Tralee edition to a tabloid format in 2006 meant that ''The Kerryman'' became Ireland's first dual format newspaper. The last broadsheet edition hit shops in 2009.
