The House of Gurgenidze ( ka, გურგენიძე) was a Russian nobility, Russian noble family of Georgia (country), Georgian origin, from the eastern province of Kakheti. History According to Prince Ioann of Georgia (1768-1830), the family stems of the earlier house of Shilda (Shildisani), which had become extinct by 1744 when the king Erekle II rewarded the loyal service of the certain Solomon Mordlisdze by him the surname, titles and estates of the extinct house of Gurgenidze. Bukhuti (Buchuti) Ivanovich Gurgenidze ( ka, ბუხუტი გურგენიძე; November 13, 1933 – May 24, 2008) was a Georgian chess Grandmaster, born in Surami, Georgia. He was a multiple Georgian Champion, and played in eight USSR Chess Championships. He shared first place with Mikhail Tal at Tbilisi in 1969–70 and placed first at Olomouc in 1976. Gurgenidze was a trainer to several women grandmasters in the Soviet Union. He was a geologist by profession. His name is attached to the Gurgenidze Variation in the Sicilian Defence (1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3. Vladimer "Lado" Gurgenidze ( ka, ვლადიმერ ადოგურგენიძე; born 7 December 1970) is a Georgian career banker, business executive, and the former politician, who was the sixth Prime Minister of Georgia, from 22 November 2007 to 1 November 2008. Revaz Gurgenidze (born July 9, 1986) is a Russian male acrobatic gymnast. With his partner Anna Katchalova, he achieved silver in the 2004 World Sports Acrobatics Championships and gold in the 2006 Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships. With his partner Tatiana Okulova, he achieved silver in the 2010 Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships and 2012 Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships.
