Gurgen Engibaryan
Gurgen Vazgen Engibaryan ( hy, Գուրգեն Վազգենի Ենգիբարյան; ar, كوركن فازكين ينكيباريان; born 19 March 1964) is a former footballer who played as a midfielder. Born in the Armenian SSR, in the Soviet Union, Engibaryan moved to Lebanon in 1993, acquiring Lebanese nationality through naturalization in 1995. He represented Lebanon since then, playing at the 2000 AFC Asian Cup. Club career Born in the Armenian SSR, Soviet Union, he started his club career in Armenia at Olympia Ashtarak, before moving to Kotayk and then Ararat Yerevan, where he played over 100 league matches. In 1995 he moved to Lebanon, playing for Homenmen; he moved to Tadamon Sour in 2000, ending his career three years later. International career Engibaryan acquired Lebanese nationality to be able to play for the Lebanon national team, playing in the 2000 AFC Asian Cup. The VBET Armenian Cup ( hy, Հայաստանի Անկախության Գավաթ) is the main football cup competition of Armenia. In its original form as the Armenian Cup, it started in 1939, when Armenia was a republic of the Soviet Union. It served as a qualification tournament for the Soviet Cup, and it was not disputed by Armenian teams in the Soviet League pyramid. After Armenia gained independence in 1992, the cup became known as Independence Cup, and the final is held every year on 9 May. List Of Lebanon International Footballers Born Outside Lebanon
The Lebanon national football team has used footballers born outside Lebanon throughout its history with varying success. As a result of the dominance of clubs founded by the Armenian diaspora in Lebanon, between the 1940s and 1960s the national team heavily featured Lebanese players of Armenian origin. The established presence of Armenians in the team led the Lebanese Football Association (LFA) to naturalise several Armenian players born in Armenia during the 1990s to play internationally for Lebanon. Most notably, Vardan Ghazaryan was the national team's leading top goalscorer. In preparation for the 2000 AFC Asian Cup, the LFA naturalised five Brazilian-born players of Lebanese descent; their presence was generally not well received, as it was felt that they did not improve the level of the team.
