Gunter Waldek
Gunter Waldek (born 26 July 1953) is an Austrian composer, conductor and music educator. Life and career Waldek was born in Linz. Already in his youth he received piano, organ and music theory lessons at the Anton Bruckner Private University. After the Matura in 1971, he studied music education, musicology and Romance studies at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the University of Salzburg. In 1977, he graduated with Staatsexamen and Magister degree and from then on taught at grammar schools in Linz and Salzburg. He completed his further studies (conducting), choir conducting and composition with Helmut Eder with the Magister artrium. In 1982 he took over the composition and theory class from Helmut Schiff at the Bruckner Conservatory. In 2004, he habilitated in composition. In 1990, he became deputy director, and from 2004 to 2008 he was vice-rector of the conservatory. Habilitation
Habilitation is the highest university degree, or the procedure by which it is achieved, in many European countries. The candidate fulfills a university's set criteria of excellence in research, teaching and further education, usually including a dissertation. The degree, abbreviated "Dr. habil." (Doctor habilitatus) or "PD" (for "Privatdozent"), is a qualification for professorship in those countries. ''Der Standard'' is an Austrian daily newspaper published in Vienna. History and profile ''Der Standard'' was founded by Oscar Bronner as a financial newspaper and published its first edition on 19 October 1988. German media company Axel Springer acquired a stake in the paper in 1988 and sold it in 1995. Bronner remains the paper's publisher, Martin Kotynek is editor-in-chief. ''Der Standard'' sees itself as—in a Continental European sense (socially and culturally, but not economically)—liberal and independent. Third parties have described the paper as having a left-liberal stance. Until 2007, the editor-in-chief of the daily was Gerfried Sperl, Alexandra Föderl-Schmid succeeded him in the post. Anton Bruckner Prize
The Anton Bruckner Prize is the main Culture Prize of the Province of Upper Austria (Kulturpreis des Landes Oberösterreich) for music. The prize, which is awarded by the Upper Austria, Land of Upper Austria, is named after the composer Anton Bruckner, who was cathedral organist in Linz from 1855 to 1868. The award is endowed with 11,000 euros and is presented in a ceremony in Linz.
