Gunnerus Library
The Gunnerus Library in Trondheim is the oldest scientific library in Norway and dates back to 1768 when it was the library of the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters (DKNVS). The library is named after bishop Johan Ernst Gunnerus (1718–1773). The Gunnerus Library is among the most important historical libraries in Scandinavia due to its rich collection from the 18th century. It focuses especially on the academic fields of archaeology, botany and zoology, but is also a general scientific library with an extensive collections in the history of culture and sciences, as well as genealogy and local history. The library is open to the public and is mainly frequented by scientists and students from the NTNU and local historians. The Gunnerus library is located in Trondheim's neighborhood of Kalvskinnet. Norwegian College Of General Sciences
Norwegian College of General Sciences ( no, Den allmennvitenskapelige høgskole) or AVH is a former Norwegian college which from 1968 to 1996 was part of the University of Trondheim (UNIT). It was created as the Norwegian College of Teaching in Trondheim (NLHT) in 1922, a name which it retained until 1984. In 1968 it became part of the new university in Trondheim, but in practice it retained much of its former autonomy. The college received its final name in 1984. In 1996 it was merged with the rest of the university to create the new Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The college had three campuses, located at Rosenborg (chemistry and biology), Lade (mathematics, physics, informatics and psychology) and Dragvoll (social studies and humanities). Thorvald Boeck
Thorvald Olaf Boeck (August 15, 1835 – April 21, 1901) was a Norwegian jurist, civil servant, and book collector. He is known for assembling what was the largest private library of its time in Norway. Book collection Boeck acquired his first book at the age of nine. He received his ''examen artium'' in 1854 from Heltberg High School and his candidate of law degree in 1860 from Royal Frederick University. At that time, he had collected 2,000 books and had worked for a few years as a stipendiary magistrate in Namdalen before returning to his native Kristiania and a new job as a copying clerk at the Ministry of Church and Education in 1863. In 1864 he won the H.R.H. Crown Prince Gold Medal for a thesis on prices of wood and fish. In 1874 Boeck was promoted to royal envoy.
