Gunnar Gundersen (chess Player)
Gunnar Gundersen (11 March 1882 in Bordeaux – 9 February 1943 in Melbourne) was an Australian chess master. Born in Bordeaux, France, he was raised in Melbourne, Australia, where his Norwegian father was the Scandinavian consul. Gundersen started to play chess at his first year of study at Melbourne University in 1902. He would eventually become a professor of mathematics at the same university. He participated in the Mannheim 1914 chess tournament (the 19th DSB Congress, ''19. Kongreß des Deutschen Schachbundes''), scoring 2.5/10 in the Main tournament (''Hauptturnier A'') before the outbreak of World War I stopped the event on 1 August 1914. Gunnar Gundersen (politician)
Gunnar Gundersen (born 21 May 1956 in Åsnes) is a Norwegian politician for the Conservative Party. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Hedmark in 2005. On the local level he was a deputy member of Åsnes municipal council from 1999 to 2007. He chaired the county party chapter from 2004 to 2005, and was a member of the Conservative Party central board in the same period. He studied at the University of Wisconsin, Madison 1975-1979 and the University of California, Berkeley 1981–1982. He worked as a research assistant at the Norwegian College of Agriculture from 1982 to 1985, and then as a local businessman. Gundersen is also a former Olympic swimmer. He competed in the men's 400 metre individual medley at the 1976 Summer Olympics. His son Tore Andreas Gundersen Tore Andreas Gundersen (born 4 February 1986) is a retired football player. Gunnar Bull Gundersen (5 April 1929 – 7 November 1993) was a Norwegian sailor, novelist, playwright and lyricist. Biography Gunnar Bull Gundersen was born at Stavanger in Rogaland, Norway. Gundersen grew up with changing foster parents and at different boarding schools. He referred to his young years as a very itinerant childhood and said he had visited 10 schools and been expelled from three of them. Shortly after World War II, he went to sea. He was welfare secretary in the State Welfare Office for the merchant navy (''Statens Velferdskontor for Handelsflåten''), where he was stationed in Antwerp, Rotterdam and Liverpool. He took the officer and later captain examinations at Oslo Public Seamen's School (''Oslo Offentlige Sjømannsskole'') in 1953 and sailed for some years as an officer in foreign trade.
