Gulume Tollesa Chala (born 11 September 1992) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. Career In 2013 she won the Marrakech Marathon. In 2015 she won the Frankfurt Marathon. In 2017 and 2018 she won the Hong Kong Marathon The Hong Kong Marathon (香港馬拉松), sponsored by Standard Chartered, Standard Chartered Bank, is an annual marathon race held in January or February in Hong Kong. In addition to the full marathon, a 10 km run and a half marathon ar .... In 2018 she also set a new course record 2:29:37. This record did not stand for long as Volha Mazuronak set a new record of 2:26:13 in the following year. Long-distance running, or endurance running, is a form of continuous running over distances of at least . Physiologically, it is largely aerobic in nature and requires stamina as well as mental strength. Within endurance running comes two different types of respiration. The more prominent side that runners experience more frequently is aerobic respiration. This occurs when oxygen is present, and the body is able to utilize oxygen to help generate energy and muscle activity. On the other side, anaerobic respiration occurs when the body is deprived of oxygen, and this is common towards the final stretch of races when there is a drive to speed up to a greater intensity.
