Gulfport is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States, bordering St. Petersburg, South Pasadena, and Boca Ciega Bay. The population of Gulfport was 12,029 at the 2010 census. Gulfport is part of the Tampa–St. Petersburg–Clearwater metropolitan statistical area. History Archaeological digs around Boca Ciega Bay indicate that settlements existed in the area circa 3000 to 8000 BC. The area was also densely populated during the Safety Harbor period. In 1528, the Spanish explorer Pánfilo de Narváez landed on the Pinellas peninsula, some say near present-day Gulfport, where he encountered the local Timucuan peoples. Gulfport has been known by several names since its founding. The first settler in what would become Gulfport were James and Rebecca Barnett in 1868 and named the area Barnett's Bluff. Gulfport is a village in Henderson County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2010 census, the village population was 54, down from 207 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Burlington, IA–IL Micropolitan Statistical Area. The village was completely submerged, save the roofs of some homes and buildings, by a levee break during the flood of 2008. Geography Gulfport is located on the western edge of Henderson County at (40.808989, −91.083733). It is bordered to the west by the Mississippi River, which is also the state boundary with Iowa. U.S. Route 34 passes through the village, crossing the Mississippi via the Great River Bridge to Burlington, Iowa. To the east US 34 leads to Monmouth and to Galesburg. According to the 2010 census, Gulf Port has a total area of , of which (or 61.88%) is land and (or 38.12%) is water. Gulfport is a former union station that served the Louisville and Nashville Railroad and Gulf and Ship Island Railroad (which was succeeded by the Illinois Central Railroad). Gulfport (Staten Island Railway Station)
The Travis Branch is a branch of the Staten Island Railway in New York City, that operates from Arlington Yard to Fresh Kills, which is used for freight transportation along the West Shore, Staten Island. History The Gulf Oil Corporation opened a dock and tank farm along the Arthur Kill in 1928 and in order to serve it, the Travis Branch was built south from Arlington Yard into the marshes of the island's western shore to Gulfport. The small yard on the refinery property had a capacity for 150 tank cars. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O) built wood trestles to carry the track over the many creeks that dissect the right-of-way to Travis. The branch was never electrified. Gulfport High School (GHS) is a public high school located in Gulfport, Mississippi, United States. It is part of the Gulfport School District. In 2019, Gulfport High was given a B-rating from the Mississippi Statewide Accountability System. The mascot is the Admiral. School colors are royal blue, orange, and white. The helmet insignia is a replica of the Green Bay Packers' "G." History The original Gulfport High was built in the year 1923, and the current Gulfport High School was founded in 1967. In 1966, Gulfport East was built. The first classes occurred in 1967, which were fully integrated. In 1978, the two schools merged, forming the current campus.
