Gulf Prairie Cemetery
Gulf Prairie Cemetery (also known as Gulph Prairie Cemetery, Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Cemetery, and Peach Point Cemetery) is located in Jones Creek, Texas, United States, off State Highway 36 and County Road 304 and was the original resting place of Stephen F. Austin. History The cemetery was established as part of the Peach Point Plantation and accordingly, some refer to the cemetery as "Peach Point Cemetery." According to the historical marker placed at the Cemetery, the Cemetery was established in 1829. One example is the account of Austin's removal. Stephen F. Austin's remains were originally located in this cemetery and were later moved to Austin, Texas on October 1910; the ceremonies and details related to this transfer, are recorded in a book by Guy Morrisoncomp Bryan. Peach Point Plantation
Peach Point Plantation is a historic site, it was a plantation and the homestead and domicile of many early Texas settlers, located in Jones Creek, Brazoria County, Texas. The land was operated as a working slave plantation from 1832 until 1863 with cotton and sugar cane as the primary cash crops. The early Texas settlers that lived at Peach Point included Emily Austin Perry, James Franklin Perry, William Joel Bryan, Stephen Fuller Austin, and Guy Morrison Bryan. Emily Austin Perry
Emily Austin Bryan Perry (June 22, 1795 – 1851) was the sister of Stephen F. Austin and an early settler of Texas. She was an heir to Austin's estate when he died in 1836. She achieved significant political, economic and social status as a woman in Texas at a time when women were often not treated equal to men. Education Perry was born in Austinville, Virginia. William Joel Bryan
William Joel Bryan (December 14, 1815 – March 3, 1903) was a Texas soldier and planter. Biography Early life William Joel Bryan was born on December 14, 1815 at Hazel Run in Sainte Genevieve County, Missouri. His father was James Bryan and his mother, Emily Austin Perry. He was the grandson of Moses Austin and Mary Brown Austin. Stephen F. Austin was his uncle. He had two brothers, Moses Austin Bryan and Guy Morrison Bryan, and a half-brother, Stephen Samuel Perry. He attended school in Potosi, Missouri until 1830. In 1831, his mother (Emily) and stepfather, James Franklin Perry, followed his uncle, Stephen F. Austin, to Texas. They settled in the eastern part of Brazoria County, Texas. James Franklin Perry (1790–1853) was an American who was an early settler and prominent citizen of Texas. James married to Emily Austin Perry, and together they operated Peach Point Plantation.
