Guinda (Spanish for "Sour cherry") is a census-designated place in Yolo County, California. It is located in the Capay Valley, in the northwestern portion of the county, northwest of Esparto. Guinda's ZIP Code is 95637 and the town is in area code 530. It lies at an elevation of 361 feet (110 m). A post office was opened in the town in 1889. The town was named by Southern Pacific Railroad officials after a cherry tree at the site. County Fire
The County Fire (formerly known as the Guinda Fire) was a wildfire east of Lake Berryessa in Yolo County and Napa County, California in the United States. The fire, first reported on June 30, 2018, in Rumsey Canyon in the community of Guinda, and was contained on July 17, 2018 after burning . The fire caused mandatory evacuations along Highway 128, County Road 23, and areas around Lake Berryessa, including Monticello Dam. The fire destroyed 20 structures, damaged three, and caused one injury. The fire was started by an improperly installed electric fence for livestock. Sand Fire (2019)
The Sand Fire was a wildfire that burned in the area of Rumsey northwest of Guinda in Yolo County, California in the United States. The fire started on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at County Road 41 and Highway 16 and burned as well as seven structures. The fire was fully contained as of 7:27 am on June 15, 2019. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire was the first major incident of the season, in what fire officials claimed to be an indicator of the fire season to come. POSSLQ ( , plural POSSLQs) is an abbreviation (or acronym) for "Person of Opposite Sex Sharing Living Quarters", a term coined in the late 1970s by the United States Census Bureau as part of an effort to more accurately gauge the prevalence of cohabitation in American households. After the 1980 Census, the term gained currency in the wider culture for a time.
