Guillermo Rivera
José Guillermo Rivera Escobar (born November 25, 1969) is a retired Salvadoran professional football player. Club career Nicknamed ''Memo'', Rivera came through the youth ranks at FAS, where he would stay for over a decade and win two league titles. In 1999, he moved abroad for a stint at Guatemalan side USAC. He returned to El Salvador to play for Salvadoran second division side Isidro Metapán alongside fellow international William Renderos Iraheta and finished his career at Once Lobos. International career Rivera made his debut for El Salvador in 1988 and has earned a total of 74 caps, scoring 15 goals. He has represented his country in 22 FIFA World Cup qualification matches and played at the 1991, 1993, 1995 and 1999 UNCAF Nations Cups and was a non-playing squad member at the 1996 CONCACAF Gold Cup but did play at the 1998 CONCACAF Gold Cup. 1991 UNCAF Nations Cup
The 1991 UNCAF Nations Cup was the inaugural UNCAF Nations Cup, the Central American championship for men's national association football teams. It was organized by the ''Unión Centroamericana de Fútbol'' or UNCAF, and it took place in Costa Rica from 26 May to 2 June 1991. All matches were played in the Costa Rican capital, San José at the Estadio Nacional. The top two teams, apart from Costa Rica, go on to participate in the 1991 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Costa Rica were given a bye due to their performance at the 1990 FIFA World Cup. Three teams qualified to enter the tournament alongside hosts Costa Rica, chosen to hold the tournament by UNCAF that same year. Estadio Nacional Soberanía ( es, Estadio Nacional Soberanía, links=no) is located in Managua, Nicaragua. It has a capacity of 15,000 and it was named after former MLB player Dennis Martínez. The 1998 CONCACAF Gold Cup was the fourth edition of the Gold Cup, the soccer championship of North America, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF). The tournament was once again held in the United States, in Los Angeles, Miami, and Oakland. The format of the tournament changed from 1996: it was expanded to ten teams, with four in Group A and three each in Groups B and C. The 1996 CONCACAF Gold Cup was the third edition of the Gold Cup, the soccer championship of North America, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF). The tournament returned to the United States and California; the games were hosted by Los Angeles, San Diego, and Anaheim. The format of the tournament changed from 1993: it was expanded to nine teams, separated into three groups of three and played in January as opposed to the 1993 edition which was played in July. The top team in each group, plus the best second-place finisher would advance to the semifinals. For the first time, a non-CONCACAF team was invited: Brazil, who sent their under-23 side.
