Guilford Young College
Guilford Young College is a Roman Catholic senior secondary college, with campuses located in the Hobart suburbs of Glenorchy and Hobart City in Tasmania, Australia. The College provides education to students in Year 11 and Year 12, offering more than 100 Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE), pre-tertiary and Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses. The college is named in honour of Sir Guilford Young who served as the eighth Archbishop of Hobart from 1955 to 1988. History Guilford Young College was founded in 1994 and opened to students in 1995, having been established by the Archdiocese of Hobart, the Christian Brothers, the Dominican Sisters, the Salesians of Don Bosco, the Sisters of Charity and the Sisters of Saint Joseph. Glenorchy is a suburb of Hobart, in the state of Tasmania, Australia. Glenorchy is bound by the River Derwent to the east, Mount Wellington to the west, Hobart City to the south and to the north. Sacred Heart College, New Town
Sacred Heart College is a catholic school in New Town, Tasmania with an enrollment of 940 students. The schools serves students from kindergarten to year 10. History Sacred Heart College was founded in 1888. Between 1888 and 1908, Sacred Heart School was conducted by dedicated Catholic lay teachers, among whom was Ethel Saye, who later became well known to generations of pupils as Sr. M Josephine, the Infant Mistress. In 1908, the Sisters of St Joseph came to New Town to take charge of the School, then known as Sacred Heart Parish School. Sr. M Gabriel Reidy was the first religious Principal. Huntingfield is a residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Kingborough in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about south-west of the town of Kingston. Cygnet is a town in the Huon Valley, south of Huonville, Tasmania. History The bay on which Cygnet sits was originally named by the Indigenous people who occupied a large territory in South East Tasmania, including Cygnet, Hobart and Bruny Island. Tasmanian leader & elder, Wooraddy, came from Bruny Island. The bay was later named ''Port des Cygnes'' (Port of Swans) by French navigator Bruni D'Entrecasteaux in 1793, because he observed a large number of black swans in the area. The first European settler in the district was William Nichols in 1834. Nichols received a grant for three hundred and twenty acres of land on the north side of Port Cygnet in 1829. After the land had been cleared and accommodation built, Nichols moved his family to this property. Austins Ferry is a residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Glenorchy in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about north of the town of Glenorchy. Austins Ferry is named after James Austin (1776–1831), who had been transported to Port Phillip as a convict in 1803 along with his cousin John Earl, and arrived in Van Diemens Land in 1804.
