Guido Venturoni
Admiral Guido Venturoni (born 10 April 1934 in Teramo) is a retired Italian Navy officer who served as Chief of the Defence Staff before being appointed Chairman of the NATO Military Committee. He served as Chief of Staff of the Italian Navy from 1992 to 1993 and from 1 Jan 1994 until 15 February 1999 served Chief of the Italian Defence General Staff. He was appointed Chairman of the NATO Military Committee on 6 May 1999 and retired in 2002. After his retirement he joined Leonardo-Finmeccanica Leonardo S.p.A., formerly Leonardo-Finmeccanica and originally Finmeccanica, is an Italian multinational company specialising in aerospace, defence and security. Teramo
Teramo (; nap, label= Abruzzese, Tèreme ) is a city and ''comune'' in the Italian region of Abruzzo, the capital of the province of Teramo. The city, from Rome, is situated between the highest mountains of the Apennines (Gran Sasso d'Italia) and the Adriatic coast. The town is located by the confluence of the Vezzola and Tordino rivers, on a hillside area where the terrain features along with the Mediterranean climate make the territory rich in vineyards and olive groves. The Chief of the Defence Staff of Italy is the service head of the Italian Armed Forces. The current Chief of the Defence staff is Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone. History The post was established in 1925 as Chief of the General Staff (''Capo di Stato Maggiore Generale''). From 1941 until 1945, it was ''Capo del Comando Supremo''. The Chair of the NATO Military Committee (CMC) is the head of the NATO Military Committee, which advises the North Atlantic Council (NAC) on military policy and strategy. The CMC is the senior military spokesperson of the 30-nation alliance and principal advisor to the Secretary General. The Chair is one of the foremost officials of NATO, next to the Secretary General and the Supreme Allied Commander Europe. The CMC is assisted by the Deputy Chair, who advises the Deputy Secretary General and serves as the principal agent for coordination of nuclear, biological, and chemical matters for the Military Committee. Originally titled the Chairman, the post was redesignated in 2021 to reflect the gender-neutrality of the post.
