Guardian (DC Comics)
Guardian (James Jacob "Jim" Harper) is a DC Comics superhero introduced in April 1942 by writer/artist Joe Simon and artist Jack Kirby. Guardian resembles the earlier Kirby and Simon character Captain America (first published 13 months earlier by Marvel Comics), as he had no super powers and carried an indestructible shield. When Kirby returned to DC in 1970, he eventually re-established the character as a supporting one in the '' Superman'' franchise: as a clone who was head of security for Project Cadmus. In the Arrowverse series ''Supergirl'', James Olsen, portrayed by Mehcad Brooks, became the superhero Guardian. Additionally, James Harper appeared in the first season as a marine colonel portrayed by Eddie McClintock. Guardian (James Hudson; also known as "Weapon Alpha" or "Vindicator") is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by John Byrne, the character made his first appearance in ''The Uncanny X-Men'' #109 (February 1978) which was co-plotted by Byrne and his long-time collaborator Chris Claremont. The character is a founding member and leader of Alpha Flight. He was designed to be the Canadian equivalent of Captain America, hence his costume markings are modeled after the Canadian flag. Vindicator (Heather MacNeil Hudson) is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Following James Hudson's apparent death, Heather Hudson became the leader of Alpha Flight and took the mantle of Vindicator, which was also originally used by Heather's husband, although he eventually settles on the name Guardian. She eventually took her husband's mantle of Guardian, until she later resumed the codename Vindicator. The New Guardians were a DC Comics superhero team featured in the short-lived eponymous series ''The New Guardians''. Malcolm Arnold "Mal" Duncan, currently known as Vox (also known as the Guardian, Hornblower, and the Herald), is a fictional character, existing in the DC Universe. Introduced in April 1970, he is DC's first African-American superhero.
