Guan Zhaoye
Guan Zhaoye (; 4 October 1929 – 26 December 2022) was a Chinese architect who was a professor at Tsinghua University, and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Biography Guan was born in Beijing, on 4 October 1929, while his ancestral home is in Nanhai, Guangdong. His father was a poet, scholar and industrialist. His elder male cousin Guan Zhaozhi was a mathematician and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He attended Beijing Yuying High School, a school run by the American Church. In 1947, he entered Yenching University, but transferred to Tsinghua University a year later. After graduating in 1952, Guan stayed and taught at Tsinghua University, where he was promoted to associate professor in 1978 and to full professor in 1984. From 1981 to 1982, he was a visiting scholar at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. On 26 December 2022, he died at Beijing Changgeng Hospital, at the age of 93. Liang Sicheng
Liang Sicheng (; 20 April 1901 – 9 January 1972) was a Chinese architect and architectural historian, known as the father of modern Chinese architecture. His father, Liang Qichao, was one of the most prominent Chinese scholars of the early 20th century. His wife was the architect and poet Lin Huiyin. His younger brother, Liang Siyong, was one of China's first archaeologists. Liang authored the first modern history on Chinese architecture, and he was the founder of the Architecture Department of Northeastern University in 1928 and Tsinghua University in 1946. He was the Chinese representative of the Design Board which designed the United Nations headquarters in New York City. Monument To The People's Heroes
The Monument to the People's Heroes () is a ten-story obelisk that was erected as a national monument of China to the martyrs of revolutionary struggle during the 19th and 20th centuries. It is located in the southern part of Tiananmen Square in Beijing, in front of the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. The obelisk monument was built in accordance with a resolution of the First Plenary Session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference adopted on November 30, 1949, with construction lasting from August 1952 to May 1958. The architect of the monument was Liang Sicheng, with some elements designed by his wife, Lin Huiyin. The civil engineer, Chen Zhide (陈志德) was also instrumental in realizing the final product.
