Guam National Basketball Team
The Guam national basketball team represents Guam in international competitions. It is administrated by the Guam Basketball Confederation. Guam is the only nation other than Australia and New Zealand to win a silver medal at the FIBA Oceania Championship. Edward Calvo (basketball)
Edward Jerome Baza Calvo (born August 29, 1961) is an American (U.S. citizen) politician who served as the 8th Governor of Guam from January 3, 2011 to January 7, 2019. A member of the Republican Party, Calvo was a five-term Senator within the Legislature of Guam. He became the Governor of Guam, having defeated Democrat Carl Gutierrez in the 2010 gubernatorial election. Calvo chose Senator Ray Tenorio as his running mate for Lieutenant Governor of Guam. Personal life and education Calvo was born on August 29, 1961, in Tamuning, Guam, U.S. and is the son of Governor Paul McDonald Calvo, who served as the Governor of Guam from 1979 until 1983, and former Guamanian First Lady Rose Baza Calvo. Jericho Cruz
Jericho Xavier Setubal Cruz (born October 11, 1990) is a Filipino-Guamanian professional basketball player for the San Miguel Beermen of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). High school and college career Cruz started his basketball career in Saipan where he helped the CNMI national basketball team in a sixth-place finish. In 2008, he also helped CNMI FIBA Oceania Youth Tournament to a sixth-place finish and in the process, was voted as one of the tournament's Top 5 players. He then decided to try his luck in the Philippines where he initially played for Rizal Technological University in 2010, the same year when the Blue Thunder ruled the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association. Basketball At The 2023 Pacific Games
Basketball was one of the 24 sports contested at the 2023 Pacific Games held in Honiara, Solomon Islands. The 5x5 format was played at the Friendship Hall from 17–25 November while the 3x3 format took place from 30 November to 2 December at the SIFF Academy. The tournament also served as the qualification phase for FIBA Oceania to the 2029 FIBA Asia Cup pre-qualifiers. Basketball At The 2019 Pacific Games
Basketball is one of the 26 sports scheduled for the 2019 Pacific Games which will be held in Apia, Samoa. Competition format The 8 teams will be split into two pools of four where round-robin matches will be played with the top two from each pool advancing to the semi-finals or the medal play-offs. Qualification For the first time ever, teams would have to qualify for the event in order to participate in the basketball competition either for men or women through sub-zone qualification tournaments in Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. Basketball at the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea was held at the BSP Arena and PNG Power Dome on 3–12 July 2015. Guam won the gold medal in the men's tournament, defeating Fiji by 78–61 in the final. Tahiti secured the bronze medal by beating hosts Papua New Guinea by 83–73. Fiji won the gold medal in the women's tournament, defeating American Samoa by 75–61. Tahiti beat Papua New Guinea by 62–51 to win the bronze medal.
