Guam Highway 1
Guam Highway 1 (GH-1), also known as Marine Corps Drive, is one of the primary automobile routes in the United States territory of Guam. It runs in a southwest-to-northeast direction, from the main gate of Naval Base Guam in the southwestern village of Santa Rita in a northeasterly direction to the main gate of Andersen Air Force Base in the village of Yigo. It passes through Guam's capital, Hagåtña, as well as intersecting other territorial highways. The highway runs through tropical forest, urbanized commercial areas, and residential neighborhoods. The US military upgraded and extended the road starting in 1941. Construction ceased with the Japanese invasion in December 1941 and resumed after the Second Battle of Guam in 1944. Asan Invasion Beach
The Asan Invasion Beach is a historic site in the village of Asan, Guam. The beaches of Asan were one of the landing sites of American forces in the 1944 Battle of Guam, in which the island was retaken from occupying Japanese forces. The designated historic site includes the beaches extending between Asan Point and Adelup Point, and extends inland roughly to Guam Highway 1. It also includes the water area extending from the beach to the reef, about out, an area that includes at least one abandoned Allied landing vehicle. The beaches, fortifications, and water out to the reef were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Portions of them are part of the Asan Beach Unit of the War in the Pacific National Historical Park, which includes a public access point at Asan Point. Guam Highway 9 ...
Guam Highway 9 (GH-9) is one of the primary automobile highways in the United States territory of Guam. Route description This northern route is a relatively short connector between GH-3 (and its spur route GH-3A) and GH-1, skirting the southern reaches of Andersen Air Force Base. At the western terminus, traffic defaults onto GH-3 heading south back towards Dededo through the Finegayan area while at the eastern terminus, at the main entrance to Andersen AFB, traffic defaults onto GH-1 heading south back into Yigo proper. Tumon
Tumon ( ch, Tomhom) is a district located on Tumon Bay along the northwest coast of the United States unincorporated territory of Guam. Located in the municipality of Tamuning, it is the center of Guam's tourist industry. History Tumon Bay or Agana Bay are the most likely locations that Ferdinand Magellan dropped anchor on March 6, 1521, though there was little further contact for the next 150 years. When the Spanish Empire colonized Guam in 1668, ''Tomhom'' was one of the most prominent villages. Guam Highway 10A (GH-10A) is one of the primary automobile highways in the United States territory of Guam. Route description GH-10A is one of a number of orphaned suffixed routes on Guam; it bears no physical connection to its parent, GH-10 located elsewhere in Barrigada. In fact, GH-10A (named Chalan Pasaheru) is considered a very important route in its own right, as its primary purpose is to provide access to Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport. It runs from GH-1 in the resort area of Tamuning eastward to GH-16 in Barrigada. Although unnumbered, there is a key junction along the route into the Tiyan area that was once Naval Air Station Guam. Guam Highway 14 (GH-14) is one of the primary automobile highways in the United States territory of Guam. Route description GH-14, a diversion route off Guam Highway 1, is the resort road of Guam. It and its suffixed child routes are the means to reach the resorts and beaches of Tumon Bay, Guam's primary resort area. The road begins running north off a four-way junction with GH-1 at the Guam International Trade Center building: the busiest intersection on Guam in terms of traffic density.
