Gruben/Meiden (1,818 m) is a village in the Swiss Alps, located in the canton of Valais. It is situated in the upper Turtmanntal and is traversed by the Turtmanna river. It belongs to the municipality of Oberems and is the main settlement in the valley south of the town of Oberems. The village is inhabited in summer only. Gruben, Rana
Gruben is a village in the municipality of Rana in Nordland county, Norway. Gruben sits on the southern shore of the river Ranelva and it is a southeastern suburb of the town of Mo i Rana. European route E12 originally passed through of the village, but since 1995 it has passed north of the village. Gruben has four daycare centres, a school with secondary classes, two grocery stores, one nursing home care, two petrol stations and a lot of local businesses. Franz Josef Freiherr von Gruben (February 13, 1829, Düsseldorf – October 23, 1888, Regensburg) was a 19th-century German Catholic social politician, member of the German Reichstag, poet, lawyer, artist and Head of the Princely House of Thurn und Taxis in Regensburg. Life Franz Gruben was born on 13 February 1829 in Düsseldorf. He attended the Friedrich-Wilhelm-gymnasium in Cologne until 1847 and studied law and political science in Berlin and Bonn. He enlisted in the Royal service of Justice at the District Court in Cologne in 1850, and in 1856 he was appointed the district court assistant judge. Then he worked with the Royal Government in Koblenz until the autumn of 1857, when he left the civil service in 1858 to take a position in the administration of the Princely House of Thurn und Taxis. Baron Thierry de Gruben (born 17 November 1941) is the former Ambassador from the Kingdom of Belgium to the United Kingdom. He joined the Belgian diplomatic service in 1969 after studying law at the University of Leuven, being assigned to the NATO headquarters in Brussels, and then to the press department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1971 to 1976 he was posted to Moscow, then from 1976 to 1980 to London, where he rose to the rank of First Secretary. From 1980 to 1982 he was consul-general in Bombay; after a few years in Brussels as an assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, he took up his first ambassadorial post in 1985, becoming the Ambassador to Poland. He moved to Moscow in 1990, becoming the Ambassador to the Soviet Union and then to the Russian Federation.
