Großkrotzenburg is a municipality in the Main-Kinzig district, in Hesse, Germany. It has a population of around 7,500. The town is mainly known for its swimming lake and its coal-fired power station. Geography Location Großkrotzenburg is located in the extreme southwest of the Main-Kinzig district, in the southeast of Hesse, bordering on Bavaria. It lies on the right bank of the river Main. Part of the municipal territory is covered by the ', a system of lakes created by mining and (gravel) quarrying that stretches across the Hessian-Bavarian border and is named after the town Kahl am Main. Großkrotzenburg Power Station
Großkrotzenburg Power Station (German: ''Kraftwerk Staudinger'') is a modern coal-fired thermal power station in Großkrotzenburg, Hesse, east of Frankfurt, Germany. It comprises five units with a total capacity of approximately 1900 MW. The units were built between 1965 and 1992. Units 1-3 were decommissioned in 2012 and 2013. A characteristic of this power station is the fact that the most recently built unit, Unit 5, uses the updraught from the existing cooling towers as stack. The power station is operated by Uniper Uniper SE juːnipɚis an energy company based in Düsseldorf, Germany. Kahl am Main (officially ''Kahl a. Main'') is a community in the Aschaffenburg district in the ''Regierungsbezirk'' of Lower Franconia (''Unterfranken'') in Bavaria, Germany. It has around 7,500 inhabitants. Geography Location Kahl am Main lies 107 m above sea level and includes, at the mouth of the river Kahl, the lowest-lying point in the state of Bavaria and covers an area of approximately 11 km2. It also lies right on the boundary with Hesse in a favourable location with regards to transport between Aschaffenburg and Hanau (Main-Kinzig-Kreis). Main-Kinzig-Kreis is a Kreis (district) in the east of Hesse, Germany. Neighboring districts are Wetteraukreis, Vogelsbergkreis, Fulda, Bad Kissingen, Main-Spessart, Aschaffenburg, Offenbach and the district-free cities of Offenbach and Frankfurt. The Main () is the longest tributary of the Rhine. It rises as the White Main in the Fichtel Mountains of northeastern Bavaria and flows west through central Germany for to meet the Rhine below Rüsselsheim, Hesse. Aschaffenburg (Low Franconian: ''Ascheberg'') is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in Bavaria, Germany. It is bounded by (from the west and clockwise) the districts of Darmstadt-Dieburg, Offenbach, Main-Kinzig (all in the state of Hesse), the districts Main-Spessart and Miltenberg, and the town of Aschaffenburg.
