Groton is a village and civil parish in Suffolk, England, located around a mile north of the A1071 between Hadleigh, Suffolk, Hadleigh and Sudbury, Suffolk, Sudbury. It is part of Babergh District, Babergh district. The parish church dedicated to Saint Bartholomew is flint faced and has some 15th-century features; it was Victorian restoration, heavily restored in the 19th century. It is a Commonwealth War Grave site. The village has no shops but does have the pub the Fox and Hounds. In addition to Groton village, the parish contains the hamlet (place), hamlets of Broad Street, Suffolk, Broad Street, Castling's Heath, Gosling Green, Horner's Green, and Parliament Heath. The Groton Bridge Co. was an American construction company. History The company was founded in 1877 as Groton Iron Bridge Company, by merger of two firms. It was reorganized and became the Groton Bridge and Manufacturing Company in 1887. Groton is a village in Tompkins County, New York, United States. The population was 2,363 at the 2010 census. The Village of Groton is near the center of the Town of Groton and is northeast of Ithaca and west of Cortland. History The village lies within the former Central New York Military Tract and was first settled by outsiders around 1795. Before then, the only purpose of the land surrounding Groton was to host the winding trails of the Native Americans that once lived in central New York. Also, they used the Owasco Inlet as a water source for their people, and possibly for transportation, though it is very shallow at some points. The Town of Groton contains a village, also called Groton. The town is in the northeast corner of the county and is northeast of Ithaca. As well as a village, the Town of Groton also includes a former school, Groton High School, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. History Groton was in the former Central New York Military Tract.
