Grimley is a village and civil parish () in the Malvern Hills District in the county of Worcestershire, England about north of Worcester. It is known for the Norman Parish Church; St Bartholomew. It once housed a monastery which was reputedly linked to Holt Castle via tunnels, and has been a site of refuge for thousands of years. Edward Mayhoff 'Ed' Grimley is a fictional character created and portrayed by Martin Short. Developed amongst The Second City improv comedy troupe, Grimley made his television debut on the sketch comedy show '' SCTV'' in 1982, leading to popular success for both Short and the persona. Short continued to portray Grimley on ''Saturday Night Live'' and in various other appearances. The character also starred in Hanna-Barbera's 1988 animated series '' The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley'', and appeared in Short's comedy specials ''I, Martin Short, Goes Hollywood'' and '' I, Martin Short, Goes Home''. Martyn Andrew Grimley (born 24 February 1963) is a former field hockey player. He won gold with the Great Britain squad at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. He also has World Cup and Champions Trophy silver medals with England as well as silver medals with both European Cup silver medals with both indoor and outdoor squads. He has a combined total of 178 international caps for England and Great Britain. Grimley was born in Halifax, England.
