The Griffith Mansion is a historic residence which remains a private family home on in Yolo, California (previously known as Cacheville, outside of Woodland), built by Abram Griffith in 1886. At the age of 22, Griffith came to America in 1844, arriving in New York City, where he resided until 1849. Yolo County (; Wintun: ''Yo-loy''), officially the County of Yolo, is a county located in the northern portion of the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 216,403. Yolo County Courthouse
The Yolo County Courthouse was a courthouse for the Superior Court of California in Yolo County in Woodland, California until 2015. The original building was erected in 1864, and was used for 37 years until condemned in 1911. The edifice, built in the same location in 1917, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, and is also a contributing property in the Downtown Woodland Historic District. History The land for the first courthouse was offered to the county supervisors by Frank Freeman, one of Woodland's founders. He offered an entire city block with the boundaries of Court, North, Second, and Third Streets. Albert Bennett, an architect from Sacramento, who also worked among other architects on the California State Capitol building, was hired by the Yolo County Board of Supervisors to design one of the city's first major landmarks. Woodland Opera House
The Woodland Opera House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and a California Historical Landmark, is one of four fully functioning 19th century opera houses in California. It is a contributing property to the Downtown Historic District of Woodland, California. History Designed in 1885 by Thomas J. Welsh, a prominent San Francisco architect, for the amount of $28,000. It was the first opera house to serve the Sacramento Valley. The builder for the community theater was Woodland contractor William Henry Curson. Several years later in July 1892 a fire that started in Dead Cat Alley behind the Opera House destroyed much of what is now the Downtown Woodland Historic District, including the Opera House. Gable Mansion
The Gable Mansion is a Victorian mansion in Woodland, California, listed as a California Historical Landmark, that was built in 1885 for Amos and Harvey Gable, two Yolo County pioneers and ranchers. History The Gable brothers, Amos W. and Harvey C. Gable, had the home designed and built for them at 659 First Street by Edward Carlton "Carl" Gilbert, the owner of the Woodland firm Gilbert & Sons, for $16,000. U.C. Davis Art History Professor, Joseph Baird, a former professor of art history at the University of California, Davis, has described it as "a locally unique variant of the Stick style of Victorian architecture in vogue in the 1880s".
