Greystone Theatre
Greystone Theatre associated with the University of Saskatchewan. The theatre was founded in 1946, by Emrys Jones, the first professor of Drama in the Commonwealth. In 1949 an RCAF hangar was converted to the Theatre's first dedicated building. University Of Saskatchewan
A university () is an institution of higher (or tertiary) education and research which awards academic degrees in several academic disciplines. Emrys Jones (drama Professor)
When Emrys Jones was appointed professor of Drama at the University of Saskatchewan, in 1944, he is credited with being the first full professor of Drama at any University in the Commonwealth. Jones is also known for rare historic photos he took in the late 1920s, when he worked aboard vessels working in Canada's sparsely settled North. Jones donated his photos to the University in the late 1960s. Jones earned a B.A. from the University of Alberta in 1931. He spent the next eight years working as a high school teacher, before returning to University to complete his Masters and PhD. He earned his Masters at the University of Alberta. He earned a Rockefeller Fellowship, and studied for his PhD at Cornell University and Columbia University. He became a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1971. Frances Hyland
Frances Hyland (April 25, 1927 – July 11, 2004) was a Canadian stage, film and television actress. She earned recognition for roles on stage (including ten seasons with Stratford Festival) and screen (including her performance as Nanny Louisa on '' Road to Avonlea''). Honoured with the Governor General's Performing Arts Award in 1994, she was called "the first lady of Canadian theatre". Early life and education Hyland was born in 1927 in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, a small town south-west of Swift Current, to Jessie (née Worden), a teacher, and Thomas Hyland, a salesman. She lived there until her parents divorced when she was one year old. She was raised by her mother's family in Ogema, Saskatchewan. Kim Coates
Kim F. Coates (born February 21, 1958) is a Canadian–American actor who has worked in both Canadian and American films and television series. He has worked on Broadway portraying Stanley Kowalski in ''A Streetcar Named Desire'' and in the lead role of ''Macbeth'' performed at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Roy Romanow
Roy John Romanow (born August 12, 1939) is a Canadian politician and the 12th premier of Saskatchewan from 1991 to 2001. Early life Romanow was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Tekla and Michael Romanow, who were Ukrainian immigrants from Ordiv, currently Chervonohrad Raion, Ukraine. His first language as a child was Ukrainian. He studied at the University of Saskatchewan, earning a B.A. in Political Science and a LL.B. while involving himself heavily and early on in student politics. Susan Wright (actress)
Susan Wright was an award-winning Canadian actress. Most prominently associated with stage roles, she also had a number of supporting roles in film and television. She grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and attended the University of Saskatchewan, where she performed at the Greystone Theatre. She left the university, however, without graduating. She co-founded the Persephone Theatre in Saskatoon, with her older sister Janet Wright, and brother-in-law Brian Richmond. Eric Peterson
Eric Neal Peterson (born October 2, 1946) is a Canadian stage, television, and film actor, known for his roles in three major Canadian series – '' Street Legal'' (1987–1994), ''Corner Gas'' (2004–2009), and '' This is Wonderland'' (2004–2006), as well as ''Corner Gas Animated'' (2018–2021). Career Stage In 1971, Peterson began his acting career when he helped found the collective theatre company ''Tamahnous Theatre'' in Vancouver, British Columbia.
