Greymachine
Greymachine is an experimental music project founded in 2006. It is led by Godflesh and Jesu (band), Jesu frontman Justin Broadrick. The act also features Isis (band), Isis frontman and guitarist Aaron Turner, Jesu bassist Diarmuid Dalton and Head of David bassist Dave Cochrane (musician), Dave Cochrane. Broadrick started Greymachine as a solo project with some "drum beats I'd recorded, along with very abstract, improvised guitar parts and lot's [sic] of synth noise." He eventually enlisted other contributors for the project. The debut album of the act, ''Disconnected (Greymachine album), Disconnected'', was released on 4 August 2009, via Turner's own record label, Hydra Head Records. Allmusic described the album as "one of the most anticipated metal records of the year." The track “Vultures Descend” from the album was released as a promotional recording, promotional single. ''Disconnected'' is the debut album by experimental music act Greymachine, featuring Justin Broadrick, Aaron Turner, Dave Cochrane (musician), Dave Cochrane and Diarmuid Dalton. Produced by Broadrick, it was released on 4 August 2009 via Turner's own record label, Hydra Head Records. In February 2018, ''Disconnected'' was reissued as a limited 2xLP with unique artwork and clear vinyl. The track "Vultures Descend" was released as a limited edition promotional single on 12 May 2009. Vultures Descend
"Vultures Descend" is a song by experimental music project Greymachine, from the act's debut album, '' Disconnected''. Produced by the band leader Justin Broadrick, it was released on 12 May 2009 as a single via bandmember Aaron Turner's own record label, Hydra Head Records. Background The song was released as a 12" vinyl and a cassette single. The 12" single was limited to 600 copies that were pressed on black vinyl with white labels. Each copy has a "DJ style sleeve" with centre hole punched out and with a sticker in the upper right hand corner. The song was also released for free download prior to the release of the single on Avalanche Recordings' official website. Critical reception Tom Breihan of Pitchfork Media described the track as "an extended formless feedback wallow, along the lines of Broadrick's work as Final." Diarmuid Dalton
Diarmuid Dalton is an Irish musician and songwriter. He is best known as the bass guitarist of post-metal bands, Jesu and Iroha. Dalton frequently collaborates with Justin Broadrick, who is the founder of Godflesh and Jesu. Biography Irish born, grew up in Ireland and Birmingham. Diarmuid Dalton was friends with G. C. Green and Paul Neville prior to their involvement with Fall of Because and Godflesh and met with Broadrick in 1984. In between 1988 and 1997, Dalton was a member of the industrial rock group Cable Regime, which featured Neville and Steve Hough. In 1996, he contributed to Broadrick's dark ambient project Final, performing on the albums, ''2'' (1996) and ''Solaris'' (1998). He played Moog synthesizer and electronics on the last track of Godflesh's 2001 studio album, ''Hymns''. Justin Broadrick
Justin Karl Michael Broadrick (born 15 August 1969) is an English musician, singer and songwriter. He is best known as the lead singer and a founding member of the band Godflesh, one of the first bands to combine elements of extreme metal and industrial music. Following Godflesh's initial breakup in 2002, Broadrick formed the band Jesu. He was briefly in the English grindcore band Napalm Death when he was a teenager in the mid-1980s, writing and recording guitar for their debut album, '' Scum''. Broadrick has also maintained a parallel career as a producer, producing records and remixes for groups such as Pantera, Isis, Mogwai and Hydra Head labelmates Pelican. Dave Cochrane (musician)
Dave Cochrane is an English bass guitarist that played in noise rock band Head of David along Justin Broadrick. He has also collaborated with Justin Broadrick and Kevin Martin on several occasions. He now plays in the industrial psychedelic band Terminal Cheescake and the noise metal outfit Bruxa Maria Biography Dave Cochrane joined the noise rock group Head of David after having played with Mick Harris in the punk band Anorexia. Aaron Turner
Aaron Turner (born November 5, 1977) is an American musician, singer, graphic artist, and founder of label Hydra Head Records. He is most widely known for his role as guitarist and vocalist for the post-metal bands SUMAC and Isis, while also participating in several other bands and projects such as Old Man Gloom, Lotus Eaters and Split Cranium, a collaboration with Jussi Lehtisalo of Finnish band Circle who toured with Isis in 2009. Raised in New Mexico, Turner moved to the Boston area, where he attended art school and formed Isis and Hydra Head. In June 2003, Turner moved operations of both the band and label to Los Angeles, California. Turner now resides in Vashon, WA which is also the base of operations for Hydra Head and his various other activities. Godflesh
Godflesh are an English industrial metal band from Birmingham. The group formed in 1982 under the title Fall of Because but did not release any complete music until 1988 when Justin Broadrick (guitar, vocals and programming) and G. C. Green ( bass) renamed the band and decided to use a drum machine for percussion. Melding heavy metal with industrial music and later with electronic music and dub, Godflesh's sound is widely regarded as a foundational influence on other industrial metal and post-metal acts and as significant to both experimental and extreme metal. Hydra Head Records
Hydra Head Records was an independent record label that specializes in extreme metal music, founded in New Mexico by Aaron Turner (the frontman of Isis) in 1993. It had another imprint, Hydra Head Noise Industries, which specialized in experimental and noise music. Turner announced he was winding the label down in 2012. In 2020, the label removed its catalog from Spotify and returned its album rights back to several artists. History Hydra Head was founded in 1993 as a distribution company while Turner was still in high school. In 1995, he moved to Boston to attend art school. Jesu (band)
Jesu (pronounced ''"yay-zoo"'') are a British experimental metal band formed in 2003 by Justin Broadrick following the breakup of his band Godflesh. It shares its name with the last song on ''Hymns'', the final album of Godflesh's initial run. Jesu's sound is heavily layered and textured, incorporating a diverse mix of influences.
