Grey Flowers Ferris (May 31, 1946 – June 13, 2008) was an American attorney and politician who served two terms as a member of the Mississippi State Senate. He got his start by successfully running for student government president while an undergraduate at Tulane University and later attended the Tulane University Law School. Rising to chairman of the Senate's Education Committee, he ran for lieutenant governor in 1999 but lost in the Democratic primary to former state senator Amy Tuck. In 2009, Governor Haley Barbour signed a bill passed by the state legislature to name the Mississippi Board of Education's meeting room in Jackson after Ferris. Amy Tuck
Amy Tuck (born July 8, 1963) is an American attorney and politician who served as the 30th Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi from 2000 to 2008. A member of the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party, she was previously a member of the Mississippi State Senate. She is the second woman to be elected to statewide office in Mississippi, and the first to have been reelected. Tuck later served as the Vice President of Campus Services at Mississippi State University from 2008 to 2019. The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) is the state education agency of Mississippi. It is headquartered in the former Central High School Building at 359 North West Street in Jackson. Haley Barbour
Haley Reeves Barbour (born October 22, 1947) is an American attorney, politician, and lobbyist who served as the 63rd governor of Mississippi from 2004 to 2012. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as chairman of the Republican National Committee from 1993 to 1997. Born in Yazoo City, Mississippi, Barbour graduated from the University of Mississippi with undergraduate and law degrees, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Barbour was an active Republican operative during the 1970s and 1980s, and he is often credited with building significant Republican infrastructure in Mississippi during an era when it was still dominated by Southern Democrats.
