Grevena (regional Unit)
Grevena ( el, Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Γρεβενών, ''Perifereiakí Enótita Grevenón'') is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Western Macedonia. Its capital is the town of Grevena. Geography Grevena borders the regional units of Ioannina (Epirus) to the west, Kastoria to the northwest, Kozani to the north and east, Larissa to the southeast and Trikala to the south. The Pindus mountains cover the western part of the regional unit. Other mountain ranges are Chasia in the south and Vourinos in the northeast. The longest river is Aliakmon which flows in the north and the east. Administration The regional unit Grevena is subdivided into 2 municipalities. Pindus
The Pindus (also Pindos or Pindhos; el, Πίνδος, Píndos; sq, Pindet; rup, Pindu) is a mountain range located in Northern Greece and Southern Albania. It is roughly 160 km (100 miles) long, with a maximum elevation of 2,637 metres (8652') (Mount Smolikas). Because it runs along the border of Thessaly and Epirus, the Pindus range is known colloquially as the ''spine of Greece''. The mountain range stretches from near the Greek-Albanian border in southern Albania, entering the Epirus and Macedonia regions in northern Greece down to the north of the Peloponnese. Geologically it is an extension of the Dinaric Alps, which dominate the western region of the Balkan Peninsula. Kosmas O Aitolos
Agios Kosmas ( el, Άγιος Κοσμάς) is a village, a community and a municipal unit of the Grevena municipality. Before the 2011 local government reform it was an independent municipality. The municipality was established in 1997 with the name ''Kosmas o Aitolos'' (), which was changed to ''Agios Kosmas'' in 2004. The seat of the municipality was in Megaro. The 2011 census recorded 49 residents in the village, 75 residents in the community and 870 residents in the municipal unit. The community of Agios Kosmas covers an area of 9.496 km2 while the municipal unit covers an area of 115.087 km2. The village is named after the 18th-century saint Cosmas the Aetolian. Avdella ( el, Αβδέλλα; rup, Avdhela) is a village and a former municipality in Grevena regional unit, West Macedonia, Greece. The Kallikratis Programme ( el, Πρόγραμμα Καλλικράτης, Prógramma Kallikrátis) is the common name of Greek law 3852/2010 of 2010, a major administrative reform in Greece. It brought about the second major reform of the country's administrative divisions following the 1997 Kapodistrias reform. Named after ancient Greek architect Callicrates, the programme was presented by the socialist Papandreou cabinet and was adopted by the Hellenic Parliament in May 2010. During the first administrative division of independent Greece in 1833–1836 and again from 1845 until their abolition with the Kallikratis reform in 2010, the prefectures ( el, νομοί, sing. νομός, translit=nomoi, sing. nomós) were the country's main administrative unit. They are now defunct, and have been approximately replaced by regional units. They are called departments in ISO 3166-2:GR and by the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names. The ''Government Gazette'' ( el, Εφημερίς της Κυβερνήσεως, translit=Efimeris tis Kyverniseos, translit-std=ISO, lit=Government Gazette) is the official journal of the Government of Greece which lists all laws passed in a set time period ratified by Cabinet and President.
