Grete Weiskopf
Grete Weiskopf (11 May 1905 – 15 March 1966), known by the pseudonym Alex Wedding, was a German writer of children's and young adult fiction. Life Born Grete Bernheim in Salzburg, she initially worked as a typist, bookseller, and bank clerk in Berlin. In 1928 she married the Czech-born author Franz Carl Weiskopf, a member of the German Communist Party and the Association of Proletarian-Revolutionary Authors. In 1931 she authored her first young adult novel, '' Ede und Unku'', which was among the books destroyed during the Nazi book burnings. In 1933 she and her husband fled to Prague; in 1939 they fled via Paris to New York City. After the Second World War the couple returned to Prague for a brief period. That same year, Franz began working in the diplomatic service, which led to assignments in Washington, DC and Stockholm. Franz Carl Weiskopf
Franz Carl Weiskopf (3 April 1900 in Prague – 14 September 1955) was a German-speaking writer. Born in Prague, then part of Austria-Hungary, he was often referred to as F. C. Weiskopf, he also used the pseudonyms Petr Buk, Pierre Buk and F. W. L. Kovacs. He died in Berlin in 1955. The Life of a Writer Weiskopf was the son of a German banker who was Jewish and a Czech mother. He studied at a German school in Prague and then went to university in his hometown to study Germanistik and history from 1919–1923. He traveled to the Soviet Union in 1926 and in 1928 moved to Berlin where he became editor of the ''Berlin am Morgen'' newspaper. He married Grete Bernheim. He was a member in good standing of the ''Confederation of Proletarian Revolutionary Writers'' (German: ''Bund proletarisch-revolutionärer Schriftsteller'') and participated in a conference in 1930 with Anna Seghers in Charkow in the Soviet Union. The Academy of Arts (german: Akademie der Künste) is a state arts institution in Berlin, Germany. The task of the Academy is to promote art, as well as to advise and support the states of Germany. ''Lissy'' is a 1957 East German film directed by Konrad Wolf, based on a novel by Franz Carl Weiskopf. It was released on 30 May 1957. Plot Lissy Schroeder, a working-class girl in Berlin, marries Alfred, a clerk. In 1932, Alfred is fired by his Jewish boss. Despite having ties to the Communist party through Lissy's brother Paul, the previously apolitical Alfred joins the Nazi party. After Hitler gains power, Paul is shot by the Nazis, causing Lissy to question the country's and her husband's politics and where her loyalties truly lie.
