Greta Roberts
Gretta Roberts, sometimes spelled Greta Roberts, is a Dominican educator and politician. She is currently a member of the Cabinet of Dominica, serving as minister of culture, youth, sports, and community development. Biography Roberts was born in Grand Fond, a constituency in southeastern Dominica. Her mother, Gertrude Roberts, was a politician and member of the House of Assembly of Dominica who later served as minister for community development and women's affairs. Roberts attended Grand Fond Primary School and then moved to the Convent High School. She briefly left the island and stayed on Saint Vincent after Hurricane David in 1979, before returning to Dominica and graduating from Dominica Grammar School. She began working as a teacher in 1980, eventually becoming principal of Goodwill Primary School in Roseau, where she taught for 15 years. Roosevelt Skerrit
Roosevelt Skerrit (born 8 June 1972) is a Dominican politician who has been Prime Minister of Dominica since 2004; he has also been the Member of Parliament for the Vieille Case constituency since 2000. Regionally, he has served as the chairman of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and most recently as chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in 2010. Skerrit is currently the longest-serving prime minister of Dominica. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, also known as "Roozey" by some of his closest family and friends, became Prime Minister after the death of Pierre Charles in January 2004. 2022 Dominican General Election
Snap general elections were held in Dominica on 6 December 2022. Background On 6 November 2022 (three days after independence day), Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit called a snap election "to ensure the continued renewal" of his government. Nomination day would be 18 November, and the election itself on 6 December. The ruling Dominica Labour Party (DLP) announced its candidates on 8 November. Opposition parties, including former ruling parties United Workers' Party (UWP) and Dominica Freedom Party (DFP), and civil society organisations published an open letter on 9 November condemning Skerrit's call for elections. External observers, including the OAS, the Commonwealth Secretariat, Caricom, and the Caribbean Court of Justice, had made recommendations for electoral reform in Dominica in order to assuage concerns of voter fraud, among other reasons. The Dominica Labour Party is a centre-left social-democratic political party in Dominica. History Founded in 1955 by Phyllis Shand Allfrey and Emmanuel Christopher Loblack, the Dominica Labour Party is the oldest political party in Dominica.
