Grenville Gaines
Grenville Gaines (September 26, 1854 – May 2, 1922) was an American politician, lawyer and banker from Virginia. He served as mayor of Warrenton, Virginia, Warrenton in the 1890s. Early life Grenville Gaines was born on September 26, 1854, in Warrenton, Virginia, to Mary Mildred (née Foster) and William Henry Gaines. His grandfather James Foster (Virginia politician), James Foster was a planter in Prince William County, Virginia, Prince William County and a Virginia state politician. He studied at Bethel Military Academy from 1869 to 1870. He attended Virginia Military Institute from 1870 to 1874 and graduated in the class of 1874 as a civil engineer. He graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law with a Bachelor of Laws in July 1876. He was then admitted to the bar. Career Gaines started a law practice in Warrenton in 1876. Warrenton is a town in Fauquier County, Virginia, of which it is the seat of government. The population was 9,611 at the 2010 census, up from 6,670 at the 2000 census. The estimated population in 2019 was 10,027. It is at the junction of U.S. Route 15, U.S. Route 17, U.S. Route 29, and U.S. Route 211. The town is in the Piedmont region of Virginia just east of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The well-known Airlie Conference Center is north of Warrenton, and the historic Vint Hill Farms military facility is east. Fauquier Hospital is located in the town. Thomas Harris (surgeon)
Thomas Harris (January 3, 1784March 4, 1861) was a U.S. naval officer. He served as the second chief of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. Career Harris was born in East Whiteland Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, to William Harris and Mary Campbell Harris. He attended the Brandywine Academy in Chester County. On 19 April 1809, Dr. Harris graduated from the Medical School of the University of Pennsylvania. He entered the U.S. naval service during the War of 1812, and remained there for the rest of his life. He was appointed a surgeon in the navy on 20 July 1812. On 22 September of that year he was ordered to the then commanded by Jacob Jones.
