Greg Smith (Australian Footballer)
Greg Smith (born 25 March 1957) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the South Melbourne/Sydney and Collingwood Football Clubs in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1980s. Smith played all his junior and senior football with Ardlethan Football Club in the South West Football League (New South Wales), before playing with East Wagga Wagga in 1978 and 1979. Smith won the Farrer Football League best and fairest award, the Baz Medal in 1978, with East Wagga. Rarely troubled by injury, Smith played at least 18 games in each of his five seasons at South Melbourne, earning him the nickname 'The Bionic Man'. He had come to the club from East Wagga and played his football mostly as a centreman or ruck-rover. Smith kicked 22 goals in 1982, five of them in a win over St Kilda at the SCG. Ardlethan
Ardlethan () is a small service town in the Coolamon Shire in New South Wales, Australia. Ardlethan is at the intersection of the Burley Griffin Way and Newell Highway. Ardlethan lays claim to be the birthplace of the Australian kelpie. History Ardlethan was established in the 19th century after gold was discovered but gold mining was short-lived. The railway line opened in 1908. Passenger services ceased in 1983 however the line remains open for goods trains. Warri Post Office opened on 1 October 1907 and was renamed Ardlethan in 1908. Tin mining began in 1912, and became an economic backbone of the town. A major labour strike in the 1930s gained national coverage. The open cut pit was at one time the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, and is located approximately 5 kilometres North West of the township. Barry James Round (26 January 1950 – 24 December 2022) was an Australian rules footballer. He played for and South Melbourne/Sydney in the Victorian Football League (VFL) between 1969 and 1985. He played 328 games (135 for Footscray and 193 for South Melbourne/Sydney), won a Brownlow Medal in 1981 (tying with his former teammate Bernie Quinlan) and was the Swans' first captain during the Sydney era.
