Greg Gibson (wrestler)
Gregory P. Gibson (born November 20, 1953) is a retired American wrestler who competed in the heavyweight division (under 100 kg.) He is the only American to win world medals in three styles of wrestling — Freestyle, Greco-Roman and Sambo. While serving with the U.S. Marines, stationed at Quantico, Va., he won a silver medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Greco-Roman, as well as two silver and a bronze medal in freestyle at the world championships from 1981 to 1983. Background Gibson graduated from Shasta High School in Redding, California in 1972. He went on to wrestle at the University of Oregon where he became a two-time NCAA All-American. Gregory Allan Gibson (born October 2, 1968) is an American former Major League Baseball umpire who worked in the National League from 1997 to 1999 and throughout both major leagues from 2000 to 2022. He was promoted to crew chief for the 2022 season. Umpiring career Gibson has worked two Wild Card Games (2012, 2013), ten Division Series (2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015, 2021), five National League Championship Series (2005, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018), the 2011 World Series, and the 2008 All-Star Game. He has also officiated in two World Baseball Classics (2009, 2013). Gibson was the home plate umpire for Randy Johnson's perfect game on May 18, , as well as Tim Wakefield's 200th win. Gibson has said he considers this period “an ideal grad school experience.” After his discharge from the Navy in 1971 he moved to Gloucester, Massachusetts and was variously employed as a house painter, cab driver, and construction worker. In 1974 he married Anne Marie Crotty, and in 1976 he openeTen Pound Book Company and began his career as an antiquarian book dealer.
