Greg Bird (born 10 February 1984) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 2000s and 2010s. He played as a or for Australia at international level. Bird previously played for the NRL for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks and the Gold Coast Titans. He played for the Catalans Dragons in the Super League in two separate spells, having previously played for the French club in 2009. He is a NSW Country, New South Wales State of Origin, Prime Minister's XIII and Indigenous All Stars representative. Background Bird was born in Maitland, New South Wales, Australia. SG Ball
The S. G. Ball Cup is a junior rugby league football competition played predominantly in New South Wales, between teams made up of players aged under 19. Teams from Canberra and Melbourne (Victoria Thunderbolts) also participate. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic in New South Wales teams from Perth (West Coast Pirates) and Auckland (New Zealand Warriors) also participated. The competition is administered by the New South Wales Rugby League. Queensland Rugby League Team
The Queensland rugby league team represents the Australian state of Queensland in rugby league football. Nicknamed the "Maroons" after the colour of their jersey, they play three times a year against arch-rivals New South Wales rugby league team, New South Wales in the State of Origin series. City vs Country Origin was an annual Australian rugby league football match that took place in New South Wales between City and Country representative sides. The City side represented the Sydney metropolitan area. While technically it was Sydney vs. the rest of NSW, players from the Central Coast (such as Matt Orford and Mark O'Meley) often represented City, but other players from the Central Coast (such as Chris Heighington) represented Country. The Country side represented the rest of New South Wales. The concept of an annual clash between a City and Country team originally started in 1911 with a Metropolitan side taking on the Country team. Steve Rogers (rugby League)
Steven Frederick Rogers (20 November 1954 – 3 January 2006) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. He played for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks and St. George Dragons teams in the New South Wales Rugby League premiership competition and for Widnes in the English Championship, usually in the position of . Rogers represented New South Wales and Australia captaining the national team once in 1981. After his retirement, Rogers was named as one of the five "immortals" of the Cronulla club. He became involved in the administration of rugby league, and held the position of Cronulla's CEO at the time of his death. Rogers died after swallowing a combination of prescription drugs and alcohol on 3 January 2006.
