Augustus Greeves
Augustus Frederick Adolphus Greeves (7 September 1806 – 23 May 1874) was a Mayor of Melbourne and Member of Parliament in Melbourne, Australia. Greeves was born in Knaresborough, Yorkshire, England and emigrated to the Port Phillip District in New South Wales in 1840. He was one of the first medical men to arrive in Melbourne. He was a surgeon, publican and local councillor and was the Mayor of the City of Melbourne between 1849 and 1850. He was also, for a short time, the editor of the Port Phillip Gazette and the Melbourne Morning Herald. He was a founding member of Manchester Unity I.O.O.F. in Victoria. Greeves was a member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 1853 to 1856 for the City of Melbourne. Bert Greeves
Bert Greeves MBE (born Oscar Bertram Greeves, 5 June 1906 – 15 July 1993) was a British engineer who founded Invacar Ltd in 1942 and Greeves motor cycles in 1953. Twice married with one daughter, he was appointed MBE in 1972. Early life Bert Greeves was born in Lyons, France in 1906 to English parents. His first job was as an engineering apprentice with the Austin Motor Company at their factory in at Longbridge, near Birmingham before setting up his own garage business in London. It was there that he built his first powered wheelchair for his disabled cousin, Derry Preston-Cobb, using an engine from a lawnmower. He developed it into a commercially viable vehicle and founded the Invacar Ltd in 1946 and won a major contract with the Ministry of Pensions for national supply of transport for the physically disabled throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Carji Greeves
Edward Goderich "Carji" Greeves, Junior (1 November 1903 – 15 April 1963) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Geelong Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL), now known as the Australian Football League (AFL). He won the inaugural Brownlow Medal in 1924, awarded to the VFL/AFL player adjudged fairest and best during the home and away season. He is the son of Ted Greeves, who also played with the Geelong Football Club. Greeves is the namesake of the Carji Greeves Medal, the Geelong Football Club's best and fairest award. Marion Greeves
Marion Janet Greeves, MBE (née Cadbury; 18 July 1894 – 7 July 1979) was the first one of only two female members of the Senate of Northern Ireland, having been elected to serve as an independent member on 20 June 1950, retiring on 10 June 1969. Greeves, who was born in England, was the daughter of George Cadbury, a Quaker philanthropist, and his second wife, Elizabeth Mary Taylor. She married linen manufacturer William Edward Greeves (1890–1960), Deputy Lieutenant and High Sheriff of County Armagh, who was also a Quaker, on 14 February 1918, in Bournville. The couple had five children; two daughters and three sons. She lived a relatively normal life at Ardeevin House, Portadown, County Armagh. A Girl Guides centre is named in her honour, she was President of the organisation in Ulster. Major-General Sir Stuart Greeves and Bar, (2 April 1897 – 1989) was a British Indian Army officer. He served in World War I and World War II. Military career Born 2 April 1897 in Northampton, Greeves was educated at Northampton Town and County Grammar School. When the First World War broke out, he enlisted as a private in the 7th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment on 14 September 1914. He served in France & Belgium from 31 August 1915 to 24 August 1916. and was commissioned as a temporary second lieutenant with the Lancashire Fusiliers on 25 January 1917. Edward Goderich Greeves (16 December 1878 – 11 August 1935) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Early years Greeves, the son of Edward Goderich and Julia Anderson, was born in Skipton, Victoria, on 16 December 1878. He was a noted sportsman at Geelong College, which he joined in 1890, captain of the football team, and winner of the College Cup in 1897. Teri Greeves (born 1970) is a Native American beadwork artist, living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She is enrolled in the Kiowa Indian Tribe of Oklahoma. Early life and education Teri Greeves was born on the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming in 1970. While Greeves was growing up, her mother, Jeri Ah-be-hill, owned a trading post on the reservation.
