Green–Left Coalition
The Green–Left Coalition ( hr, Zeleno–lijeva koalicija) is a left-wing political alliance in Croatia represented by six MPs. It is composed of the We can! - political platform, New Left, Sustainable Development of Croatia, as well some City of Zagreb localist political parties and platforms, such as Zagreb is OURS!, and For the City (Za grad) movements. It promotes democratic socialism, green politics, and progressivism on social issues. History The coalition was formed in 2017 for the Zagreb local elections as the ''Left Bloc'' (), where it won 4 out of 51 seats in the Zagreb local Assembly, and profiling itself as the most vocal opposition to mayor Milan Bandić and his local majority coalition with right-wing political subjects. City Of Zagreb
Zagreb ( , , , ) is the capital and largest city of Croatia. It is in the northwest of the country, along the Sava river, at the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain. Damir Urban
Damir Urban (born 19 September 1968) is a Croatian rock musician best known for his work as a singer/songwriter for Laufer and for his solo work with his band Urban & 4. Early years Damir Urban was born on 19 September 1968 in Rijeka, Croatia, a city that is today well known for its rock scene, where he founded his first band La Bellona as the bassist and main songwriter. It is with this band that he performed live for the first time, although little is left today of La Bellona's music. In 1986 Urban was part of another band as songwriter and vocalist, Laufer, one that defined the Croatian rock scene of the early 1990s. Laufer released their first album, ''The best off...'', in 1993 which spawned hits such as "Lopov Jack", "Svijet za nas" and undoubtedly their most popular song, "Moja voda". Mario Kovač (born 25 October 1975) is a prominent Croatian theatre and movie director, but also known as a multi-talented entertainer, TV program maker, musician and DJ, as well as activist for numerous causes on the left and green political spectrum. Early life He was a member of Zagreb Youths Theatre school of acting from 1984 to 1996, and during that period he took part in over 50 professional and amateur projects, mainly as actor. The Social Democratic Party of Croatia ( hr, Socijaldemokratska partija Hrvatske, SDP) is a social-democratic political party in Croatia. The SDP is anti-fascist, progressive, and strongly pro-European. The SDP was formed in 1990 as the successor of the League of Communists of Croatia, Croatian branch of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia, which had governed Croatia within the Yugoslav federation since World War II. 2020 Croatian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Croatia on 5 July 2020. They were the tenth parliamentary elections since the first multi-party elections in 1990 and elected the 151 members of the Croatian Parliament. 140 Members of Parliament were elected from geographical electoral districts in Croatia, three MPs were chosen by the Croatian diaspora and eight MPs came from the ranks of citizens registered as belonging to any of the 22 constitutionally recognized national minorities. 2019 European Parliament Election In Croatia
European Parliament elections were held in Croatia on 26 May 2019, electing members of the national Croatia constituency to the European Parliament. These were the third such elections in the country since its accession to the European Union in 2013. It was the first election to be held nationally since the 2016 parliamentary election, following which the center-right HDZ had formed a coalition government, first with the center-right MOST and later - in June 2017, with the centrist HNS. Milan Bandić
Milan Bandić (22 November 1955 – 28 February 2021) was a Croatian politician and the longest-serving List of mayors of Zagreb, mayor of Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. 2017 Zagreb Local Elections
The 2017 Zagreb local elections were held on 21 May and 4 June 2017 for the Mayor of Zagreb and members of the Zagreb Assembly. Milan Bandić, the 52nd and incumbent mayor since 2005 (previously also the 50th mayor from 2000 to 2002), ran for a sixth 4-year term. As no candidate won an absolute majority of the vote in the first round, a second round of elections took place on 4 June 2017 between the two highest-placed candidates in terms of popular vote: incumbent mayor Milan Bandić of the Bandić Milan 365 - Labour and Solidarity Party and former Ministry of Construction and Spatial Planning (Croatia), Minister of Construction Anka Mrak Taritaš of the Croatian People's Party - Liberal Democrats.
