Greenville is a city and the county seat of Meriwether County, Georgia, Meriwether County, Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia, United States. The population was 794 at the 2020 census. The city is located southwest of Atlanta and, as such, is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area (Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area). History Greenville was founded in 1828 as seat of the newly formed Meriweather County. The city was named for Major General Nathanael Greene, commander of the rebel American forces at the Battle of Guilford Court House on March 15, 1781. Mario Alford (born February 25, 1992) is an American gridiron football wide receiver for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football at West Virginia. Professional career Cincinnati Bengals Alford was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the seventh round, 238th overall, in the 2015 NFL Draft. Kentavious Tannell Caldwell-Pope (; born February 18, 1993) is an American professional basketball player for the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was named a McDonald's All-American as one of the top high school basketball players in the class of 2011. He played college basketball for two years with the Georgia Bulldogs in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), and was voted the SEC Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2013. Caldwell-Pope was selected with the eighth overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft by the Detroit Pistons. He played four seasons with the Pistons before joining the Lakers as a free agent in 2017–18. He won his first NBA championship with the Lakers in 2020.
