Greenville is a former unincorporated community located in the village of Greenville, in Outagamie County, Wisconsin Wisconsin () is a state in the upper Midwestern United States. There are 72 counties in the U.S. State of Wisconsin. The land that eventually became Wisconsin was transferred from British to American control with the 1783 signing of the Treaty of Paris. It was an unorganized part of the Northwest Territory until 1802 when all of the land from St. Louis north to the Canadian border was organized as St. Clair County. When Illinois was admitted to the union in 1818, Wisconsin became part of the Territory of Michigan and divided into two counties: Brown County in the northeast along Lake Michigan and Crawford County in the southwest along the Mississippi River. Iowa County was formed in 1829 from the Crawford County land south of the Wisconsin River. Brown County's southern portion was used to form Milwaukee County in 1834. Outagamie County is a county in the northeast region of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 190,705. Its county seat is Appleton. Outagamie County is included in the Appleton, WI Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Appleton-Neenah- Oshkosh, WI Combined Statistical Area. It was named for the historic Meskwaki (Fox) Indians. Greenville is a village in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, Outagamie County, Wisconsin. It is one of 18 communities that form the basis of the Fox Cities, the third largest metropolitan area in Wisconsin. The population was 12,619 in 2020. History The town was founded in 1848 as Greenville Station, and changed its name to Becker in 1879 (named after the first postmaster). Its name was changed to Greenville in 1896. After having an initial incorporation attempt denied by the Wisconsin Incorporation Review Board, the town was able to secure a referendum for a partial incorporation in November 2020. The eastern half of the community incorporated as a village in January 2021, and successfully annexed the remnant western half of the original township in June 2021. Area code 920 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for a large area of eastern Wisconsin. It was created on July 26, 1997, in a split from area code 414, which formerly served the entire eastern third of the state. 920 is scheduled to be overlaid with area code 274 on May 5, 2023. In 2008, service providers recognized the need for a second area code for northeastern Wisconsin, leading the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to approve an overlay plan with new area code 274. However, the Great Recession, number porting, a decline in landlines, and other factors delayed that requirement for fifteen years during which implementation was deferred several times. State Trunk Highway 15 (STH-15, commonly known as Highway 15 or WIS 15) is a state highway in Outagamie County in the US state of Wisconsin that runs east–west and provides a shortcut to Appleton from U.S. Highway 45 (US 45) for travelers inbound from points north and west. Most of WIS 15 was once part of US 45, which was redirected south of New London to bypass Appleton and provide direct access to Oshkosh and points south.
