Greenvale is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Hume local government area. Greenvale recorded a population of 21,274 at the 2021 census. Greenvale is located between Yuroke and Attwood, on Mickleham Road. History Greenvale gets it name from a farm named "Greenvale", owned by local farmer John McKerchar. It was located in the parish of Yuroke, from which the area first took its name. Greenvale Post Office originally opened in a rural area on 1 January 1871 and closed in 1969. As the suburb developed the post office reopened in 1996. Although subdivisions began in 1972, Greenvale expanded largely in the 1980s and now has two shopping centres, three primary schools, a community centre and two kindergartens. The Greenvale Football Club is an Australian rules football club 23 km north-west of Melbourne in the suburb of Greenvale, Victoria, Greenvale. The club was founded in 1990 as a junior club by Les Norris. By 2005, the club was fielding fifteen teams in the Essendon District Football League. History Greenvale Football club started in 1990 as a junior club by Les Norris, who died in April 2009. In 1996 Greenvale fielded a senior side for the first time in Essendon DFL B Grade. Greenvale has only been in operation as a senior club for a little over a decade, but already it has established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the powerful Essendon District Football League. Their first premiership came in B Grade in 2002. Greenvale has won 5 senior premierships since the club was first founded. Greenvale is a rural community in the central east part of the Riverina. It is situated by road, about 8 kilometres south from Birrego and 12 kilometres north west from Boree Creek. Greenvale Post Office opened on 1 July 1904 and closed in 1920. The Greenvale Football Club (Green & Gold colours) played in the Faithful & District Football Association from 1920 to 1939. Between 1929 and 1936, the Greenvale FC played in eight consecutive grand finals and all up played in 15 grand finals for eight Faithful & DFA premierships. In 1936, a league best and fairest medal was awarded to Leo Foley from the Greenvale FC, who also kicked eight goals in their grand final victory. Greenvale is a station on the Long Island Rail Road's Oyster Bay Branch. The station is located off Helen Street, between Glen Cove Avenue and Glen Cove Road in Roslyn Harbor, New York. History Greenvale station was originally established by the Glen Cove Branch Rail Road on July 21, 1866, as "Week's station," a freight-only station primarily used for delivering milk. Passengers were briefly allowed at the station in 1875, and then again sometime during the 1880s. At some point, the station was renamed "Greenvale." The passenger station has never existed as anything else other than a sheltered platform. On May 17, 1891, it was demolished by a locomotive that collided with a horse whose hoof was stuck in the switching apparatus, resulting in both the death of the horse and two crew members.
