Greenmount, Pennsylvania
Greenmount is a populated place in Adams County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located southwest of the Gettysburg Battlefield, at Marsh Creek along the Emmitsburg Road (U.S. Route 15 Business), in Cumberland Township. Neighboring communities are Fairfield (west), Gettysburg (north), Round Top (northeast), Barlow (east), Harney, Maryland (southeast), and Fairplay (south). History The 1814 Marsh Creek stone arch bridge on the Emmitsburg Road was replaced with a covered bridge before the battle and a subsequent 1921 concrete bridge. Harney, Maryland
Harney (Monocacyville as late as 1892) is an unincorporated community in Carroll County, Maryland, United States. Harney is also the home of the 'World's Best Carnival'. It has been the home of the Harney Volunteer Fire Company since 1951. Geography Harney is located near the head of the Monocacy River to the northwest and is the site of the following crossroads: east/west Conover Road (named for a family who owned a defunct farm on the east of the town) and north/south Harney Road. The 1919 Motor Transport Corps convoy was a long distance convoy (described as a Motor Truck Trip with a "Truck Train"typescript./ref>) carried out by the U.S. Army Motor Transport Corps that drove over on the historic Lincoln Highway from Washington, D.C., to Oakland, California and then by ferry over to end in San Francisco. Lieutenant Colonel Charles W. McClure and Captain Bernard H. McMahon were the respective expedition and train commanders and civilian Henry C. Ostermann of the Lincoln Highway Association was the pilot (guide). The Gettysburg Railroad was a railway line in Pennsylvania that operated from 1858 to 1870 over the 17-mile (27 km) main line from the terminus in Gettysburg to the 1849 Hanover Junction.
