Greenwich Pier
Greenwich Pier is on the south bank of the River Thames in Greenwich, London. It was built in 1836 to cater for the many paddle steamers that brought visitors on day trips to Greenwich from London further up river. At the time, London's urban area did not extend as far out as Greenwich. The pier is currently operated by London River Services and is used by various river operators, running public cruise services to and from Central London. It is immediately adjacent to the ''Cutty Sark'' and is within easy walking distance of a variety of other popular attractions. It was refurbished in 2004 and again in March 2018. London River Services Limited is a division of Transport for London (TfL), which manages passenger transport—leisure-oriented tourist services and commuter services—on the River Thames in London. It does not own or operate any boats itself (except for the Woolwich Ferry), but licenses the services of operators. River service had been a common means of transport in London for centuries, but died off in the early 1900s, as transportation was enhanced (and river traffic somewhat blocked) with a proliferation of bridges and tunnels. Barking Riverside Pier
Barking Riverside Pier is a Thames Clippers commuter service pier located on the River Thames at Barking Riverside. Passenger services began on 26 April 2022. The pier provides interchange with Barking Riverside railway station and local bus routes. The pier was brought into use following a renovation of the reinforced concrete coaling jetty previously used by Barking Power Station. History The existing structure was built in 1940 in order to bring coal to Barking Power Station. Earlier jetty structures were found at the site as early as 1864 and a coaling jetty was constructed with the power station in 1925. Construction of the passenger pier began in 2021 and cost £7.3 million. Design The 1940 'T' shaped jetty consists of a deck and supports made from reinforced concrete. Royal Wharf is a residential and commercial development in Newham, London located on the north bank of the River Thames. It is built on the former site of ''Minoco Wharf'' and is near the Thames Barrier, west of Thames Barrier Park, and close to both West Silvertown and Pontoon Dock DLR stations. The development is a joint venture between Ballymore Group and Singapore listed Oxley Holdings. It includes 3,385 residential units and 10,000 square metres of retail and commercial space. History The site was originally developed as an industrial works at the end of the nineteenth century and was also used for the manufacture of TNT during the First World War. North Greenwich Pier
North Greenwich Pier is a pier on the River Thames, London, England. It is situated on the Greenwich Peninsula in south-east London, to the east of the O2. The pier was formerly named QEII Pier after Queen Elizabeth II. History North Greenwich Pier was originally built in the 1880s as a coaling jetty for the former Greenwich gasworks before this closed in the late 1980s. Most of the original jetty was demolished in 1997 to make way for the new passenger pier; however eight of the original cast iron caisson columns were retained to secure the new floating pier. Antony Gormley's 'Quantum Cloud' statue stands on the downstream group of four caissons. Canary Wharf Pier
Canary Wharf is a London River Services pier on the River Thames in Canary Wharf, London. It is located next to Westferry Circus. Services It is served by two commuter oriented services, both operated by Thames Clippers under licence from London River Services. The main commuter service from central London or Woolwich calls at Canary Wharf Pier on a regular basis. The Canary Wharf - Rotherhithe Ferry, also operated by Thames Clippers, links Canary Wharf Pier with Nelson Dock Pier at the Hilton Hotel in Rotherhithe. The service uses smaller boats than the commuter service but runs at a higher frequency of roughly every 10 minutes. The ferry can be used both by guests of the hotel as well as by passengers not staying at the hotel. Since 2013 boats have run direct as far as Fulham & Putney (the RB6 service), taking roughly one hour. The evening direct service departs at 1750.
