Greeneville Commons is a shopping center located in Greeneville, Tennessee along US Route 11E and US Route 11E Business. Greeneville Commons is the largest shopping complex in Greeneville. It is anchored by Belk Outlet Store, Hobby Lobby, Ross, Bealls and Tractor Supply Co. with Hibbett Sports and Marshalls as junior anchors. JCPenney closed on July 31, 2017. History The shopping center opened in 1990 and was originally anchored by Parks-Belk, JCPenney, Goody's Family Clothing and Kmart. Parks-Belk became Proffitt's in 1995, and later became Belk in 2006, Goody's closed in 2009 and became Burke's Outlet in 2010. JCPenney closed on July 31, 2017. Ross moved into the former JCPenney building. Kmart closed on April 24, 2018. Greeneville, Tennessee
Greeneville is a town in and the county seat of Greene County, Tennessee, United States. The population as of the 2020 census was 15,479. The town was named in honor of Revolutionary War hero Nathanael Greene, and it is the second oldest town in Tennessee. It is the only town with this spelling in the United States, although there are numerous U.S. towns named ''Greenville''. The town was the capital of the short-lived State of Franklin in the 18th-century history of East Tennessee. Greeneville is known as the town where United States President Andrew Johnson began his political career when elected from his trade as a tailor. Bealls Inc. is an American retail corporation with headquarters located in Bradenton, Florida, since its founding in 1915, the family-owned corporation now operates more than 650 stores under the names of Bealls, Bealls Outlet, Burkes Outlet, and Home Centric. The CEO of Bealls Inc. is Matt Beall. Bealls Florida was not affiliated with the Texas-based Bealls chain formerly owned by Stage Stores, although the two overlapped in some markets. Proffitt's was a department store chain based in Alcoa, Tennessee. On March 8, 2006, the Proffitt's and McRae's stores were converted into Belk stores. Belk acquired the two chains in July 2005 from Saks, Inc. History Beginnings Jeweler David W. Proffitt and James Ellis founded the Ellis-Proffitt Co. on Main Street in downtown Maryville, Tennessee, in 1919. The first store had seven departments: ladies ready-to-wear, ladies accessories, millinery, men's shoes, dry goods, and bargain basement.
