Greenbrier College
Greenbrier College was a women's college in Lewisburg, West Virginia in the United States from 1812 to 1972. It started as Lewisburg Academy and when the school closed during the US Civil War, it reopened in 1875 it split into two schools: the Greenbrier College for Women and the Greenbrier Military School. The Greenbrier College also went by the Lewisburg Female Institute and Lewisburg Female Seminary. History Greenbrier College started as the Lewisburg Academy. Lewisburg Academy was established by Reverend John McElhenney in 1812 as the first school in Greenbrier County. The school closed during the Civil War and when it reopened in 1875 it split into two schools: the Greenbrier College for Women and the Greenbrier Military School. Lewisburg, West Virginia
Lewisburg is a city in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 3,930 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Greenbrier County. Geography Lewisburg is located approximately one mile north of the Greenbrier River. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which is land and is water. Much of it is within the karst belt and a sinkhole is gated over at an intersection. It is part of the Davis Spring subwatershed. Lewisburg is part of the Southern West Virginia region. Greenbrier Military School
The Greenbrier Military School was a boys-only, private, military, boarding high school and Junior College, located in Lewisburg, West Virginia. The school was founded in 1812 and closed in 1972, when the campus was converted into the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. History Present Day Impact In the early 2000s, alumni of The Greenbrier Military School created a program called The Greenbrier Cadet Program where they partnered with Fork Union Military Academy. The program honors one cadet each year that exemplifies the values held by The Greenbrier Military School and the cadet wears an honor cord which is presented at the spring parades, where Greenbrier Military School alumni are the guests of honor. Sir John Alexander Macdonald (January 10 or 11, 1815 – June 6, 1891) was the first prime minister of Canada, serving from 1867 to 1873 and from 1878 to 1891. New River Community and Technical College (New River) is a public community college in Beaver, West Virginia. It was founded in 2003 and is West Virginia's newest college.
