The Green Party of the United States, also known as GPUS, is one of the two minor contemporary political parties in the United States with a sustained national presence, the other being the Libertarian Party. The Green Party has affiliated state parties in most states. However, not all state Green Parties are affiliated with GPUS, with those parties included separately in the following list. The Green Party of the United States (GPUS) is a federation of Green party, Green state political parties in the United States. The party promotes green politics, specifically environmentalism; nonviolence; social justice; participatory democracy, grassroots democracy; anti-war; anti-racism; libertarian socialism and ecosocialism, eco-socialism. On the political spectrum, the party is generally seen as left-wing. The GPUS was founded in 2001 as the Association of State Green Parties (ASGP) split from the Greens/Green Party USA (G/GPUSA). After its founding, the GPUS soon became the primary national green organization in the country, surpassing the G/GPUSA, which was formed in 1991 out of the Green Committees of Correspondence (CoC), a collection of local Green party, green groups active since the year 1984. Kansas Green Party
The Kansas Green Party is an independent political party in Kansas. It is the Kansas state affiliate of the Green Party of the United States. The party meets in Topeka, Lawrence, and Kansas City. Elections 2020 Green Party presidential nominee Howie Hawkins' name did not appear on the general election ballot; however, Kansas was one of five states in which voters could write-in his name. As a write-in candidate, the Hawkins-Walker ticket received 669 votes in the state. In an interview during the campaign, Hawkins argued that in Kansas, among other traditionally Republican states, the Green Party had the potential to be "the second party starting out" because of Democrats' underperformance, and that in such states it's in Green candidates' best interest to "run as a Green on the full program". The Green-Rainbow Party (GRP) is the Massachusetts affiliate of the Green Party of the United States and a political designation in Massachusetts officially recognized by the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Up until 2020, it was an officially recognized political party in Massachusetts, losing that status as the result of vote tallies in the November 2020 election. The Maryland Green Party is the state party organization for Maryland of the Green Party of the United States. The Maryland Green Party qualified as a recognized political party on August 17, 2000, since that time the party has grown to 9,350 members as of April 2018. In November of 2018, outgoing Delegate Shane Robinson switched his party affiliation from Democrat to Green, becoming Maryland's first Green Delegate.
