''Green Fingers'' was an early Australian television series, which aired for two seasons on Melbourne station HSV-7. Much of what is known about the series comes from old TV listings. As the title suggests, it was a gardening series. The first season aired from 22 March 1957 to 3 January 1958, host(s) unknown. The second season aired from 29 August 1958 to 24 July 1959. TV listings in '' The Age'' list the cast as being John Sunnyman and Danny Webb. During its first season, it was a 5-minute series aired before HSV-7's newscast, but the second season aired as a 15-minute series in daytime. Both seasons aired on Fridays. HSV (TV Station)
HSV is a television station in Melbourne, Australia. It is part of the Seven Network, one of the three main commercial television networks in Australia, its first and oldest station. It launched in time for the 1956 Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne. HSV-7 is the home of AFL coverage. The HSV building (also known as 'Broadcast Centre Melbourne') was the network's operations hub, where the Master Control Room was located, controlling all metropolitan and regional feeds. Programming lineup, advertisement output, feed switching, time zone monitoring and national transmission output was previously delivered there. All Seven Network owned and operated studios had their live signals relayed there: for instance, ATN's output was fed to HSV and then transmitted via satellite or fibre optics to towers around metropolitan Sydney. About Your Garden
''About Your Garden'' was an Australian television series that aired from 31 July 1959 to 11 March 1960 on Melbourne station HSV-7. A series about gardening, it was hosted by Martha Gardener, who provided hints on gardening. A 15-minute series, it replaced ''Green Fingers'' on the HSV-7 schedule. The series is fairly obscure, and most of what is known about the series comes from old TV listings. During the 1950s, most Australian series were aired in a single city only, which was also the case with ''About Your Garden''. It is not known if the series was live or kinescoped in advance (HSV-7 likely did not have video-tape equipment at the time). Information on the archival status of the series is not available. Martha Gardner
Martha M. Gardner is an American statistician associated with GE Global Research, and the former chair of the Quality & Productivity Section of the American Statistical Association. As an undergraduate at the University of Alabama, Gardner majored in both mathematics and classical languages. She liked classics better than mathematics, but was advised by a classics professor that her job prospects would be much better in mathematics, and that she should look harder for a branch of mathematics that she enjoyed. After earning a master's degree in statistics at Alabama, focused on actuarial science, she moved to North Carolina State University (NCSU) for her doctoral studies. There, she built connections with electrical engineering that she carried over to her work with General Electric, where she has also worked on projects in chemical engineering, aircraft engine design, and quality management.
