Green Eagles Football Club is a Zambian football club based in Choma, Zambia that plays in the MTN/FAZ Super Division. The club finished the 2016 season in 11th place. There has been notable resurgence by the club, which has shifted the power balance of elite football in Zambia. The Choma-based club have transformed themselves from relegation candidates to title contenders – thanks to the support by their sponsors Zambia National Service (ZNS), focused leadership at the service and the tactics employed by Head Coach Aggrey Chiyangi, who has deservingly served as Chipolopolo care-taker coach. In 2018, Eagles finished in 4th position which earned the club qualification to the CAF Confederations Cup. Choma is a town that serves as the capital of the Southern Province of Zambia. It is also the capital of Choma District, one of the 15 administrative districts in the province. Aggrey Chiyangi (born 5 June 1964) is a Zambian former football player and current manager of Green Eagles. Club career Born in Kitwe, Chiyangi attended Kitwe Boys Secondary School, playing for the school team. Upon leaving school, Chiyangi signed for Power Dynamos, playing for the club between 1984 and 1997. International career Chiyangi made his debut for Zambia on 23 May 1993, in a 1–0 loss against Malawi. The Zambia Super League, known as the MTN Super League for sponsorship purposes, is the top association football league created in 1962 by the Football Association of Zambia. The winners of the league each season receives ZMW500,000 ($26,414.20) and a copper trophy engraved with their team name. Format The league is contested by 18 teams every season. The Zambia National Service, abbreviated ZNS, is part of the Zambian Defence Force whose primary objective is to train Zambian citizens in agriculture and craft skillsit was formed in 1963 as a Land Army before it was renamed to Zambia National Service.
