Green County is a county (United States), county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, the population was 37,093. Its county seat is Monroe, Wisconsin, Monroe. Green County is included in the Madison, Wisconsin, Madison, WI Madison, Wisconsin metropolitan statistical area, Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The county was created in 1837 from the Wisconsin Territory. He chose Green County, after the verdant color of the vegetation there. Nathanael Greene
Nathanael Greene (June 19, 1786, sometimes misspelled Nathaniel) was a major general of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War. He emerged from the war with a reputation as General George Washington's most talented and dependable officer, and is known for his successful command in the southern theater of the war. Born into a prosperous Quaker family in Warwick, Rhode Island, Greene became active in the colonial opposition to British revenue policies in the early 1770s and helped establish the Kentish Guards, a state militia. After the April 1775 Battles of Lexington and Concord, the legislature of Rhode Island established an army and appointed Greene to command it. Later in the year, Greene became a general in the newly established Continental Army. Greene served under Washington in the Boston campaign, the New York and New Jersey campaign, and the Philadelphia campaign before being appointed quartermaster general of the Continental Army in 1778. State Trunk Highway 104 (often called Highway 104, STH-104 or WIS 104) is a state highway in the US state of Wisconsin. It runs in a north–south direction in south central Wisconsin from Brodhead to Brooklyn. It was first designated in 1919–1920 before being rerouted in 1923–1926 and extended in 1999. Route description WIS 104 is a two-lane undivided highway for its entire length, travelling straight north-south along the Green County line from WIS 11 in Brodhead to WIS 92 in Brooklyn.
