Green City Market
The Green City Market is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization that operates a farmers market in Chicago focusing on local and sustainable farming practices. Green City Market is Chicago's only year-round, sustainable market. Green City Market was started in 1998 by chef, cookbook author, and ''Chicago Tribune'' columnist Abby Mandel Green City Market operates as an outdoor market in the south end of Lincoln Park from May through October. From November through April, Green City Market moves into the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. Lincoln Park
Lincoln Park is a park along Lake Michigan on the North Side of Chicago, Illinois. Named after US President Abraham Lincoln, it is the city's largest public park and stretches for seven miles (11 km) from Grand Avenue (500 N), on the south, to near Ardmore Avenue (5800 N) on the north, just north of the Lake Shore Drive terminus at Hollywood Avenue. Several museums and a zoo are located between North Avenue (1600 N) and Diversey Parkway (2800 N) in the Lincoln Park, Chicago, eponymous neighborhood. Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum
The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum is a natural history museum located in Chicago, Illinois, and operated by the Chicago Academy of Sciences. The museum traces its history to the founding of the academy in 1857. After a century at a nearby location, the academy opened its present museum named for benefactor Peggy Notebaert in 1999 at the intersection of Fullerton Parkway and Cannon Drive in Lincoln Park. The institution focuses on the natural history of the Chicago region, and offers educational programs for children and adults. Alice Waters
Alice Louise Waters (born April 28, 1944) is an American chef, restaurateur, and author. In 1971 she opened Chez Panisse, a Berkeley, California restaurant famous for its role in creating the farm-to-table movement and for pioneering California cuisine. Waters has authored the books ''Chez Panisse Cooking'' (with Paul Bertolli), ''The Art of Simple Food I'' and ''II'', and ''40 Years of Chez Panisse''. Her memoir, ''Coming to my Senses: The Making of a Counterculture Cook'' was published in September 2017 and released in paperback in May 2018. Waters created the Chez Panisse Foundation in 1996, and the Edible Schoolyard program at the Martin Luther King Middle School in Berkeley. Chicago Farmers' Markets
Chicago farmers' markets include approximately 30 open-air markets across neighborhoods with farmers from Illinois, and surrounding states including Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. Most of the markets are sponsored by the city and are held on one day of the week, with the exception of a few of the more popular ones, such as the Green City Market. Each market is open from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., unless otherwise indicated. Over time the locations and days of some markets have shifted as the city re-balances coverage to different neighborhoods throughout the week. Most markets begin on the first week of the month listed, but a few begin in the second week of the month.
