Course The Green Brook rises in the Watchung Mountains at an elevation of 410 feet in Free Acres, (the border of Berkeley Heights and Watchung). It flows northeast, forming a border between Union and Somerset Counties. It then turns south and flows through a valley in the Watchung Mountains. The Blue Brook joins it at Seeley’s Pond. It continues on a southwestern flow through Plainfield/North Plainfield. It flows underground between Watchung Ave and Madison Ave. The Stony Brook joins it in Green Brook Park. Green Brook Township, New Jersey
Green Brook Township is a township in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. It is centrally located within the Raritan Valley region. As of the 2010 United States census, the township's population was 7,203, reflecting an increase of 1,549 (+27.4%) from the 5,654 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 1,194 (+26.8%) from the 4,460 counted in the 1990 Census. What is now Green Brook was originally created as North Plainfield Township on April 2, 1872, from portions of Warren Township. Portions of the township were taken to form North Plainfield borough (June 9, 1885) and Watchung (March 23, 1926). Hurricane Floyd was a very powerful Cape Verde hurricane which struck the Bahamas and the East Coast of the United States. It was the sixth named storm, fourth hurricane, and third major hurricane in the 1999 Atlantic hurricane season. Green Brook Park
Green Brook Park is a county park along the Green Brook, a tributary of the Raritan River, in the city of Plainfield in Union County, New Jersey. Designed by the Olmsted Brothers, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 14, 2004, for its significance in landscape architecture. It extends into the borough of North Plainfield in Somerset County. With History and description The Union County Park Commission was established in 1921 and hired the Olmsted Brothers, formed by the sons of landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, to design a county park system, including this one along the Green Brook. The initial park development from Clinton Avenue to West End Avenue started in 1922. Along Park Drive, the area is pastoral, with a forested area north of the Green Brook. Raritan River
Raritan River is a major river of New Jersey. Its Drainage basin, watershed drains much of the mountainous area of the central part of the state, emptying into the Raritan Bay on the Atlantic Ocean. History Geologists assert that the lower Raritan provided the course of the mouth of the Hudson River approximately 6,000 years ago. Following the end of the last ice age, the Narrows had not yet been formed and the Hudson flowed along the Watchung Mountains to present-day Bound Brook, New Jersey, Bound Brook, then followed the course of the Raritan eastward into Lower New York Bay.
